Reclaiming the Mission : The Gospel Coalition: Reprise and In Retrospect

Clark, What would their differences be? I certainly see differences, but theologically they are similar and of course all three, especially Keller amd Mohler - appear regularly on the web site and in videos. Probably Ed (who said he was not part of Gospel Coalition last nite on twitter) has the least formal involvement but still alligns well with them - appears in TGC videos etc. So what would you see as their differences on "missional."

Steve, I agree with your sentiment, but of course leading the church missiologically has its own set of problems ... so let's us converse more on this ... Your assertion is a good one ... Blessings!

At the risk of being perceived as overdramatic, I had to choke back the tears reading these comments. Blessed to be among you all. And Jason ... thanks again ... and next time I'm in LA ... let's share a beverage ... but don't expect JR Woodward or Rozko to pick up the tab ... they're broke like the rest of us ... they just look better fed. peace bro ...
Reclaiming the Mission : Two New Books For 2011- For Those Thinking Through "Missional"

Bob, Roxburgh's book is a refinement and exploring of the cultural mindset of church in the mode of being church. I didn't agree with everything, but for me it was the best exploration of his keynote ideas yet (and best written). Van Gelder's book needed to be done. It fleshed out in detail, unbelievable detail, the history of the development of the various streams of missional. I found it immensely insightful and helpful. peace bro.

Just to be clear y'all, I use the term "biblical" somewhat in jest. I see that word used often as a substitute for "agrees with my own personal exegesis of what I want the Bible to say." In order for a position or claim to be Biblical it must be truly lived out and tested in a community as the outworking of Scripture is our lives...

Scott, This comment is sobering ... I've had to read it a few times to believe the stats you are putting forth.
Sam ... ok, I know the post looks like I'm throwing "youth groups" under the bus... but come on ... I put it out front that there's a rhetorical thing here goin on ...and the last paragraph pleads for a place for youth ministry geared towards certain sensitivities ... I don't have the answers, we searching at our church ... since this is a blog post it can take us only so far as to flesh out how youth discipleship should be nurtured in community ... I nonetheless think all three of my points are problems that need to be addressed ... if you read Gordon Neufeld ... I think you will be stunned at the illumination in that book ... peace bro

Sam... I can only comment on one comment at a time ... this is goin to take me some time ... meanwhile ... here is what David Anderson, a D Min student at Northern, said on my facebook page ... "The basic evangelical practice of "youth group" - i.e. isolating youth from the greater life, ministry, & growth of the congregation - is intrinsically dysfunctional and smacks of age segregation; teenagers need to be mentored & engaged in ...real productive ministry - they fact that they are generally not is reflected in the massive number of American church kids that go off to college & never return to church. This whole phenomenon was the core of my D.Min. thesis. We need inter-generational church, & we must value our kids or prepare to lose them to the world" Comments ?
