Isn't the statute of limitations for personal injury 3 years in WA? Seems strange that they would want to only release the videos that are over 3 years old. My father was beaten up by cops in the 90s and they claimed it was he who attacked them, despite witnesses. They held the threat of prosecution over his head for 3 years as if to threaten him incase he chose to pursue legal action against the city. Pretty chickens!t if you ask me.

I understand what you are saying and at one point I fully agreed (I do firmly agree about closing tax loopholes). Here is what made me decide that a flat tax system would not be fair. If someone were making $40K a year was taxed at 10% and another person making $1M was taxed at the same rate, it is not fair. The person on the lower rung will be left with $36K to live off of while the person with $1M will have $900K to live off of. The reason I think that it would not be fair is because that person making $40K is still struggling to get by, while the person making $1M will do just fine, especially in this economic climate. I do not expect you to agree with me, but I am glad that you listened and took the time to respond. You never know, I may just swing back to the flat % tax rate again as I see more research done on the subject. Take care.

I think that if you add all of the taxes that you pay, you would find that the 1/3 figure is low. There are people in all income brackets that work their butts off. Some make it and some don't. We need workers as well as employers, that is a given. As a modern society, we need to be taxed in order to receive the benefits that are included in our modern life such as roads, security, parks, a government, etc. To pay for this we need a tax code that is fair. Taxing someone who makes $30K a year at 1/3 of their income will hurt far more than taxing a millionaire at 1/3, the same goes for a flat tax %. What I am suggesting is not to raise taxes on the top 1%, but the top .1% Would I suggest this in times of economic growth and a close to balanced deficit? No. The people who are hurting right now are the bottom 80%. They are the ones that need to decide how to feed their families day to day. We gave the top 1% tax cuts to create jobs, yet more and more of those jobs are pushed over seas. Jobs created here, create shoppers, small businesses and tax payers. That is what we need to get out of this recession, or depression if you will. Top economists say that over 70% of our economy is consumer driven. The majority of americans spend all of their money consuming. This can not be said of the top .1%
