This is the type of things from Chavismo that boils my blood... you know, you try to sympathize with them (not the government but the regular folk who is a Chavista) but then comes Chavez and try to exclude "x" citizens from his "proceso"... I don't consider myself rich but certainly we are privileged in the sense that my Venezuelan family doesn't live in a barrio, then... my family is apolitical and law obedient... why they have to endure this shit from the government? Are they considered rich bc they don't live in a barrio, who applies and who doesn't? Like people mentioned here, a lot of riches are Chavistas... are the "ewil" too? Wouldn't be more clever for Chavez to have an including speech instead of the excluding hateful rant? Then he would have to get things done in terms of improving the life of poor citizens and that takes a lot of work, instead of taking so much bullshit about "the riches" on the TV. Divide and conquer politics. Nasty. He is no better than the other previous politicians, certainly worst since I cannot recall another Venezuelan president trying to divide the population... Chavistas, wake up. A real revolution comes from their citizens. From all of them.

That investigation have left a lot of questions in the air, John.... "The Attorney General himself has said he is not to be trusted completely, but also said he believed Vásquez statements on the case only by looking at him "in his eyes"." (...) "In March, 2008, after Isaias Rodriguez had left the office of Attorney General, one of his former aides told he had manipulated some of the information in the act. A few days later, Vazquez de Armas asked to change his declaration again telling that this time he would tell all what he knew." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danilo_Anderson Gawd, Chavistas are getting on the same level than Scientologist. =D

I don't agree much with you Kepler, as usual... I don't think Venezuelans buy more beyond their means than a regular American... Venezuelans are more flamboyant though... it's part of our idiosyncrasy whether we like it or not. But be aware, we are very inconspicuous if we compare ourselves to any Mexican though. The fact that Venezuela (not Venezuelans) don't produce anything is not cultural but political and hence, economical. Venezuelans move abroad and first thing they do, if not going to school to get another degree and become more educated than the media and get a great job, is open some kind of business... they are productive members of any society they move in. They are not part of the stereotypically lazy Hispanic as people think of the regular Hispanic. I don't think as well that Venezuelans have no sense of priority however they don't have opportunities inside of their own country to develop them... so, what do they do with the money they earn after they cover expenses other than buying whatever if they know they cannot afford a house, for example and if they have one, they might not be able to get another one because of the government might prohibit it? What kind of investment, savings etc a middle class Venezuelan can do inside of their country to protect their money? They know the chance of getting their savings devaluated is very high, so they spend it after buying all the freaking dollars they can and putting them under the mattress. The spending habit comes more from what can they do with their money other than spend it. So, at least they are smart enough to get use of the Blackberry pin network since everybody have one. It looks really crazy to see all that buying in the middle of the catastrophe of Hugo Chavez.... not gonna argue that.

Hi Justin... well I think the reason on why they cannot consume as they wish is obvious... and it's not a cultural one. Cubans and Venezuelans are culturally very similar, you know. Why do you think is the reason they don't have a Sambil-style monstrosity? Why they cannot enjoy the bourgeoisie amenities of life if they wanted to?

Yes, it is... And you know, since Chavistas are the same they now what to control and what not to, to keep the people in some sort of whiskicito dream, I guess... I understand now Quico, I also had a strange perception of Caracas too when I went there last year... a part of it hasn't change at all. Wonderfully odd and very hard too explain. It really deserves the commentary.
