"Our ancestors chose emblems for our Coat of Arms that were natural and of immediate significance to them, as well as their hopes for the future. They envisioned a "New World Order" based on the principles of Christian brotherhood..."

:) Several founders (namely the 3 featured on this page) were Deists. Deism rejects the Christian notion of God as a deity who interacts with humankind. To a Deist, God is a passive "creature." In fact, Deism espouses a conception of God that is strikingly liberal, even by today's standards. It is, therefore, hardly likely that the founding fathers intended to create distinctly Christian "new world order." If anything our founding fathers were more enamored by the Golden Age of Greece than with Christianity. Maybe from our vantage point it makes sense to say that our country is based upon Christian values, but realistically democracy is a Greek philosophy. Its values are just as thoroughly imbued in the fabric of this nation than any other canon of ethics. One needn't be skittish about our country's diverse roots because the entire nation is premised upon diversity. One needn't call the founding fathers "ancestors" to be American. Thats the beauty of it.

What's with the "Real 'So and So'" series? The way this page is written you'd think there are only four books worth reading, three of which purport to tell a truer than usual account of men long dead. All three founders, however, were writers themselves. Why not just read what Jefferson said and spare yourself the delusion?
