16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - South Park...off the h... · 0 replies · +1 points

I just recently watched this episode since I have heard about it on the news recently and heard from a few friends about the newest South Park episode. I watch a decent amount of South Park so I know what humor they like to portray. This whole deal about Muhammad, personally, should not cause such a big deal. In past seasons there were plenty of episodes where they tried depicting Jesus Christ. One of which comes to mind is the one where Jesus is set up for a boxing match against Satan. I did not hear much controversy over that episode, but then again I was not very attune to the news like I am now. All the other religions are made fun of too so it is not just a sole attempt to bash the Muslim religion. Jesus is looking at porn online while Buddha is snorting a line of crack.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not exactly trying to make peace among people. They merely see a chance at humor to entertain the masses. You can’t tell me Muslims do not have their own jokes about other religions, but come on they definitely set themselves up for this with the last cartoon trying to portray Muhammad, Family Guy. Apparently that whole episode was controversial too but unfortunately I missed that one.

I can see how this is bad though, but it is just going in a circle with controversies and stereotypes. Assuming the censored item is Muhammad, then Muslims who speak out against stopping such media occur against their religion are just adding to the Muslim radical stereotype that most people seem to have. People need to learn to stop being offended by such things. It is like what Sam Richards said in class, “Something is only offensive, if you choose to make it offensive.” I take that to heart because that is totally true. If you think about it, things that really get people irritated are very little things, stuff that does not matter to most people, most of the time. These people that do get offended by it just make things very complicated. South Park has a reputation of making fun of stereotypes and celebrities. It is their humor and they are not going to change it because some people are outraged about it. If they are really that outraged do not watch it. No one should take a show such as South Park seriously because they are only trying to get people to laugh.

And what is this I hear about a radical group wanting the creators of South Park to be killed? If that is true, they are not helping their cause at all. So cliché but death is not the answer. People need to realize that; things do not need to be so radical.

To me, terrorism is probably one of the biggest things that I am afraid of in this world. It seems like it can happen at any time, any where with out any detection. We have tried to raise our security in many things but that just adds to my fear more since I no longer have certain freedoms of what I can do. Terrorists find loopholes in these new securities, which just adds more strict laws so that pretty soon traveling will be the biggest hassle in the world. Why do they do this? It is because it is a last resort for them because there is not much else that they can do. Thanks to Sam’s Christian Invaders lecture, for the first time I am actually starting to realize why it is that they do this.

The United States has far too much power in the world. We are the only superpower in the world still and it has gone to our heads. We are becoming pseudo-guides to other countries in our minds and think that it is up to us to push our views and such on other countries. We also feel that we need to control as much resources as we can and frankly we have become way too materialistic in this country. The United States consumes about twenty four percent of the world’s energy so we do what we can to get as much resources as we can, even those resources that are not ours. This is what leads us to declaring wars on places so we can get more energy. The government can claim it is for the cause of establishing democracy to the world, but why is it that every place we do that, there is oil?

Why haven’t we tried “liberating” other countries such as Korea or those in Africa? There is no oil there, so it is not worth our time. These people who are committing these suicide runs are doing the only option they can think of to liberate them. We have no right to enter their land, and take it as our own. These people have a right to it, not that it is the right way, but we are not leaving them with much of an option out there. As a so-called super power, our actions do have a major effect on the world. We as a nation need to be careful of what we do. Our actions are causing radical groups to sprout up and preach “Death to America”. Everything is our fault so people should not be blaming the head man of radical groups for creating the terrorism. Once we see that it is really us, then true, justifying action can take place.

This just adds to the reason why I hate politics. I know some of you people out there will criticize me when I say that I am not registered to vote, but I could really care less. There is no party for me that I think shares all the views that I have, and even if there were I still probably would not vote very often. Politics is no longer led by logical views. I do not even know if they ever were run by logical views, but all politicians seem to run on emotions rather then knowledge. People who are not politicians need to stop acting emotionally as well because it leads to irrational actions like what is happening at this protest.

Why is it that when people are trying to get the attention of certain higher officials, they have to resort to slandering a persons name or call them names based on their differences? I do not know why they think it will help, but name calling and racial slurs do exactly the opposite. People who are the target of these will do nothing for the accuser. This is no way to get your voice heard. The only people listening are other racists who probably do not even care about the real point one is trying to come across.

I do not know why people think that the reason someone is doing something wrong is because of their race or ethnicity. A race or ethnicity does not define who they are and the actions they make. It only defines what they are. So what if Republican John Lewis is black or that Republican Barney Frank is a homosexual. The one is just a color of his skin, not the incapability of his brain, and the other is a life choice, not a reason for doing wrong. People have no right to yell these hurtful words in protest. I am all for free speech but just how far can it really go? Hate speech should not be allowed any breathe of air.

With all that being said, I do agree to the protest of the newly passed Health Care bill. It goes with the theory that Sam Richards was talking about way back when he was talking about “King of the Hill”. People who are covered by health insurance now are there because they were either born into a family who has made it big enough in life to pay for it, or they have the required skills to achieve health insurance. This new bill now has everyone in the nation being taxed so that people who cannot afford it get the benefit. I don’t see why the people who could work for it have to pay for those who can’t. Anyone can get it as long as they work hard enough for it. Hopefully another reform will come along that will fix this new catastrophe.

16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - If men could menstruat... · 0 replies · +1 points

I do not think that the reason why most men do not talk about a woman’s period is because it is not spoken about enough with them. I do not know if it is different any where else but I had my first sex education class in the sixth grade. We learned about it all there and then once every year after that until I hit high school. Women can believe it or not but most men do have the knowledge about a woman’s menstrual cycle. I know I do not have a problem with it being said in public or being mentioned to me because I have many girl friends that do not really have a care about it either. I know this is not normal for most people though because I know a lot of girls who hide the fact that it is that “time of the month” again.

Take my girlfriend for instance, she is not very comfortable talking about it at all as if she was embarrassed by it. I do not see what there is to be embarrassed about. It is your body taking the natural course that it is intended. It is completely normal and I know I cannot tell by looking, but I bet a lot of girls are going through the same period days as other girls. No girl is alone on her few days of bleeding every month. I think that today’s society has just made it so hard for woman to be able to speak out about their natural occurrences. Maybe some girls think it’s a sign of weakness that they need to bleed every month and that does not help with the rising power of woman. I do not know, that sounds a little ridiculous to me, I hope what I said is completely and utterly false.

I am very confused about this girl’s statement about what if guys had menstruations too, would tampons be free? Why would tampons be free? There is not anything that we as men get for free out of our natural ways, whatever that may be, so I do not see why anything would become free if we all had menstruations. Now if men did menstruate, I think that the grey area between men and women would dramatically thicken. It would definitely provide a similarity between men and women and we would start understanding more of what a woman has to go through. The thought of our own menstruation does bother me, no offense to women, because there is only one place it can come from and I’m just going to stop right there. Also, if men had their own menstruation, men would definitely manipulate it into their own masculine way of being an alpha male.

I do not understand how the school can have such an opinion on this subject. This high school faculty is a bunch of hypocrites. They spend years telling kids to stop discriminating against each other, to stop the name calling and bullying but yet when there is a lesbian in the school, all of a sudden none of these rules apply to them. They have no right to do this to this girl. I even think that they are threatening her very well being since they canceled the prom entirely.

Kids in the high school who were really looking forward to the prom blame her for it being canceled. High school kids are definitely not the most logical and morally sound people in the world. Who is to say that these high school students will not retaliate against her in an extremely abusive manner and possibly hurt her physically? These teachers are starting a black list for everyone in the county to take part in. This is just the start of denying all rights for lesbian and gay people. It is outrageous that they could do something like this after so many years that we have gone through accepting lesbians and gays. We have come a long way from before but this whole catastrophe puts us back to where we started.

So what a girl asked if she could bring her lesbian date to the prom. There is nothing wrong with that. People can be attracted to and love who ever they want regardless of gender, race, religion, etc. It is their choice to live their life this way. No one is telling the teachers that they cannot live their lives the way they are so what gives them the right to do so? Exactly, no one. Also, what is the deal with the tuxedo comment? Why can she not wear a tuxedo? Sounds to me like this high school is a public high school so therefore there must not be a dress code. Every day, students get to wear what ever they want, so why does this not apply? Does this just make it more awkward for homophobic people? People need to learn to accept that lesbians and gays can flaunt their relationships in public just like a straight couple does.

I watched her talking on the Ellen show and thought this was ridiculous. She was telling Ellen how she did not want to pretend to be someone she is not. Which is great because she should not have to assimilate to what today’s society happens to call the “norm”. I agree with Ellen, this girl is a hero for being able to stand this strong for her rights at such a young age.

This has “BAD IDEA” written all over it. I do no see the point of having an all white league and if Moose says it is for the white men who do not want to play the up tempo that is played in the National Basketball Association today then this league would produce no revenue because the games would not be exciting enough. After reading this I immediately thought of watching my high school team play their games. Unfortunately my high school’s basketball team was entirely white and most of the schools we would play were white as well. These games were not very exciting. These white players who do not want to play at a high tempo is another way of saying they are not good players. If they cannot play in the National Basketball Association then they should not be making their careers out of playing basketball. They need to find another profession, one that they are good at.

Yes, most of the NBA seems to be dominated by black players now but who cares. It is a sport that anyone can learn and work hard at to be able to play as a profession. The best players that have ever lived were mostly black: Michael Jordan, Julius Irving, Dominique Wilkins, Wilt Chamberlain, and it goes on forever. I don’t see many great players coming from a league such as this. I love to watch the NBA; no new basketball league needs to be created.

If a league like this was to be created there are many ways that it can spark some racial tension. This white league could cause the white men in the NBA to leave their teams and join because of some racial tension there causing all kinds of scandals and the ones who do not leave could be criticized too. It would not be well for either league. I can also see a championship game created between the two leagues like the old days when the AFL and NFL would play each other to decide the best team. The winner of such a game would definitely spark some racial debate that either or race is better than the other because they beat the opposing race in a game of basketball. It just does not seem appealing to me at all. This game would also be like the battle between Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Byrd. I was watching a documentary about the two of them that racism was so bad during their reign that when the two played each other on the court people considered it to be a battle of the races. Black people in Boston rooted for Johnson in LA because they did not want the white man to win. This kind of racism is needed again. We’ve grown as a country and I like to think we are better than that.

This is just absolutely ridiculous! How can one man be so insecure or just so horny that he needs to resort to paying seven thousand dollars on a technologically advanced doll to have satisfaction? It is also so absurd that someone even wanted to create such a robot. I wonder what kind of guy this is. I would like to hang out with him just to see what he is like. I just do not think that this could be real.

In my head, this puts a whole new meaning to the phrase “Sex sells”. This is obviously a replacement for women for sex addicts and men who are socially inadequate. I cannot see a normal person wanting to use this so called “device”. What if in some strange reality that this becomes the normal thing? That they make a robot that is so lifelike that they become normal citizens. It sounds like it is from some kind of science fiction movie. These robots become the obsession of every man and soon the world’s reproduction rate actually begins to decrease. Eventually the species of man would become obsolete and the women will evolve to the world without men and they could either reproduce asexually or with other women.

I know this seems extremely bizarre and farfetched but that is how I feel about the fact that man is now building human like toys to have sex with. It should be illegal. Like how can this be actually acceptable to have sex with in some men’s minds? I wonder, if a guy in fact owns one of these sex robots, does he brag about it or even let people know that he is in possession of one of these sex dolls? I know that if I ever really wanted the need to have one of these I definitely would not tell anyone.

It is also illogical to spend seven thousand dollars on a stupid piece of advanced technology for something that you can do on your own with a REAL lady. Those seven thousand dollars could have easily gone to a good cause to help people; like donating it to help people in Haiti where their problems are in much more need of fixing than a guys libido being hurt. Also, if the guy really does have problems with socializing with woman, he could use that money on classes or some sort of self-help so that he does not need any sort of sexual toy to have pleasure. He can socialize with real women and get things done the more natural way. A being made of wires and a fake personality just does not seem right to be around with. One should always choose flesh over wires.

I think it is really sad how this was the last person in the whole world who could speak the Bo language. Languages are a very important part of life because a language is directly related to the culture of the people. It wasn’t just the Bo language that went but the Bo culture as well. It will never be seen again.

On a brighter note though, it is showing how languages are evolving and therefore some may become obsolete. Take Latin for instance. It may still be spoken for a number of terms and mainly used in a religious stature, but no culture today uses it as its main dialogue. Look what came from Latin though. Latin is considered to be the root of most languages that come from the European areas. It evolved into the separate cultures own unique language to show diversity. The English language that we speak is heavily similar to that of the Latin language. However, the English that we speak is different from where we got our language.

English in England is spoken one way with many words meaning one thing but here in the United States it could mean something else. I know how a fag in England is just slang for a cigarette, but here in the United States it could be a derogatory word for someone gay. Even here in the United States English is not entirely the same wherever you may go. People speak differently in the north compared to the south and different in the east compared to the west. There are many different cultures within the United States that it leads to different variances of the English language. The evolution of language is constantly being reinvented. Every day, slang is becoming apart of the normal speech of many people. Children speak entirely different from their parents in many aspects because they have created their own updated English that many parents may not understand. It is constantly being updated by each generation.

Yeah, this Bo language might have disappeared off the face of the earth, but how many subcultures have been made from the Bo culture. I do not think that this language has completely died. Just the original has become obsolete. Bo 1.2 is somewhere but we just have not noticed it to be so. Things such as a language cannot just disappear and never be heard of again. It’s still around as long as you know where to look for it. I’m sure there are plenty of historians or people like linguists who have made it there special project to preserve this language to the best of their abilities to keep it from never being heard of again. These people will keep much of the culture in peoples memories.

I thought it was pretty funny reading the Pocahontas versus Avatar piece at the bottom of this article. As I read it, I could not help but to notice the similarities between the stories of Pocahontas and Avatar. They are extremely similar if you look at it so I can see where David Brooks gets his idea about white people needing to be able to save other people from a disastrous fate. A white guy in the film does save the Pandora tribe from total annihilation but that is not the moral or message that I received from watching this movie.

What I got from this movie was how corporations would do anything to protect their profits. They put these profits in front of all life if necessary. In the film, this corporation hires a mercenary army to protect itself from a native tribe and to take over the land that is very rich in the resource that brought the company to this world. They originally tried some diplomacy with the project they called Avatar, where they used lifeless bodies of the native tribe to help with certain negotiations. The native tribe did not take kindly to this so they resorted to violence, to rid them of the land so they could reap the profits from the valuable resources under the tribe’s land.

I have even heard some people talk about this movie about how it sets a bad image of the United States’ army. This I just think is absolutely absurd because the soldiers in this movie are hired hands or mercenaries that get paid large amounts of money to fight for the company’s goal. This has no affiliation with a countries’ army let alone the United States’ army. It just goes with my opinion that it is the company taking any necessary action to increase their profits so they can continue to fill their wallets with more and more money.

I do not think this is the way to go. Corporations should be less inclined to get more profit and focus more on advancing the world as a whole than just the few higher ups in the world. Now I do not think they should just become a non-profit organization because that does not promote people to be competitive. Just enough profit should be made to satisfy everyone, but that does not seem very likely in my lifetime or anyone else’s. People are greedy and if given the chance to better increase their revenue they will surely take the chance. This is much like the company in Avatar. Avatar I think is a hit towards capitalism, not the white man saving the less fortunate. The reason the main hero is white is probably entirely on the fact that he was the best in an audition. The actor just had better skill.
