Lovely DMV Toasts (who I have somehow managed not to contact any other way), we are toastwaking potluck style in Malcolm X Park next Friday. Deets and RSVP opportunity are here.

ALSO, join our google group! It's p. quiet so no one gets spammed to death (but we have a pretty solid IRL book club). If you were in the older group, this one is new because we couldn't find anyone with admin privileges to add new people.

Depending upon what July weekend, you could be here for the Folklife Festival (this year's looks particularly good and not just because I am semi-obsessed with Basque cider). DC Fringe is also going on all month in various spots across the city. Lots of musicals this year.

I really enjoyed Signs Preceding the End of the World by Yuri Herrera. It's quite short and impressionistic and has a dreamlike quality. If you're okay not knowing precisely what's happening in a book at all times you might like it!

You mean all those Goldschlager shots at college parties were for naught?!

The thing that gets me the most out of the entire loosely amalgamated trashfire that seems to be that dude's personality is this bit: "Five years ago, for his birthday, we drank $130-an-ounce, 30-year-old Macallan scotch on the Park Hyatt rooftop. I’m convinced that’s what gold tastes like."

So there are some Scotches that age really really well and you can definitely taste why they cost an obscene amount per serving. Macallan is NOT one of those, IMO. The 12 year is a solid choice in terms of "pretty good Scotch that a lot of places are likely to have," but it really caps out there in terms of value for money. I've not had the 30, but I've had the 18 and the 25 and both are fine-not-great.

I guarantee you these guys bought the 30 year because they knew the name and it was old and expensive, which gives me a teeny bit of schadenfreude.

(I have opinions on Scotches.)

this pairs well with my comment about Poison Ivy's clones! I think we've got a conspiracy theory going.

ooh, they are LITERALLY those plant clones Poison Ivy made in that one BTAS episode, House & Garden:

they even have the same hairstyle! QED!
