I like that about america. I am sure however that the United States cannot avoid getting involved in these dirty little wars. Their honour demands this as does their conscience. I see this need distilled into something palatable to the voting politicians, i.e., the grand strategy of FDR where war acts are linked to national interest, but I also see in these things an underlying need for America and the boys and girls fighting these horrible little wars, to do something good. This is why I think that people like me who are not americans but love the ideals of the american way founded as it is in liberty and decency, are so shocked when we see this sort of display.
