Having grown up in Alaska, I can say that there are a lot of 'wanted' people up there. I think most of them take advantage of the new lease on freedom that they have, and keep a low profile. Consequently, very few of them are ever caught and returned to wherever they are wanted. Apparently, this guy was too foolish to follow that blueprint.

I feel for the occupants of the Ainsworth home, as they will be displaced. Call me a skeptic, but I smell insurance fraud on the Rodney St. fire. If your house won't sell, arson is an alternative. An illegal and dangerous alternative. The investigation will tell the tale.

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear about that. I don't personally feel that way, what I meant is that the scriptures can be used to paint a picture of a vengeful God when people pick and choose what they want to emphasize. I know a whole lot of these folks, and no matter how much they hear that God is a God of love, grace, compassion, forgiveness, and mercy, they want Him to be the God who punishes everyone who pisses them off, or who don't conform to their power structure. <run-on sentence> To be clear, I don't see any possible way that Jesus-centered faith could logically or rationally see anything other than a God of love. Anything else is empty religion masquerading as Christianity. <steps off soap box>

"I just get frustrated with the closed minded and no tolerance that some seem to have of others different than them." More often than not, I suspect that these people are covering their fear of the unknown with mean-ness and hostility. The monotheistic religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) are well suited to this response because they all allow for people to believe in a vengeful God. In my opinion, they are making a huge mistake that makes God out to be petty and small. I'm sorry to 'preach' here, it is just so easy for me to get on a soapbox. Now, I need to go take a look at 'the man in the mirror'.

I have never heard this concerning JW's. It's heart-wrenching to read such an account, and to imagine how much hurt you have felt. I agree wholeheartedly with owt-raged's comment. Not all who identify with Christianity are this way, even if many seem to be. I can tell you with some level of authority (I'm formerly a pastor of a Christian church) that the Christian scriptures (Bible) have dominant themes of forgiveness, love, reconciliation, redemption, and grace. All of these are the opposite of the hurtful things that were said and done to you.
