Can't declare a neighborhood historic but can cause boilers in the Veteran's Memorial to be put back in below a flood level. Unbelievable, who are these people?

It may be FEMA saying this must be done but it is the Historic Preservation folks that are behind the requirement (which is stupid to say the least). Remember the smokestack?

I realize that the Council just passed the final reading a week or so ago but Ms. Mumaw's coops in the picture look pretty fancy to have been just erected in a week. Is it possible she has had chickens long before the ordinance was approved?

I am originally from the western part of Iowa and knew Mr. King's old business where he tried to hire labor on the cheap compared with the going rates. He runs on a different standard of morality than most. Sorry for the people that he represents.

Now that Mercy is doing the Cancer Center on their own PCI shouldn't need to have a Cancer area in their mall and that should take away enough of the needed space so that a skywalk would be sufficient. City should pay to put it up for them as incentive, I should hope everyone would recognize a million or more of the taxpayer dollars for a skywalk is a lot cheaper than $20 million plus of taxpayer dollars to redo streets and everything else that would be required by closing 2nd Avenue for two blocks.

I believe one of the reasons health care costs have remained as stable as they have in CR is because of the fact we have two excellent medical hospitals and there is competition present. I am not convinced that the PCI Medical Mall would have any effect on keeping health care costs down and in fact I think it could result in higher costs.

The Chamber said the vote by its board of directors came after “careful consideration.” C'mon this group of individuals will only support those things that build the downtown district and their businesses at the cost of the taxpayers and not their money.
GazetteOnline.com : Dad says Culver ‘saving’ Cedar Rapids

If he cared so much about Cedar Rapids and the other cities affected by the 2008 flood disaster why didn't he care to call for a special session of the legislature to deal with the disaster? He exhibited great leadership by waiting 6 months for the regular session of the legislature to start meeting as scheduled. Gee, maybe he believed since the legislature was controlled by his party he couldn't count on them to do anything anyway. Still a leader would have called all elected officials back to deal with the issue. You were and are a good man John Culver, too bad your son can not even approach the ability to fill your shoes.

Closing 2nd Avenue is all misdirection causing the public to pay attention to that possibility and not question the millions of taxpayer dollars that will be required as incentives for the project. Forget about the street disruption and start asking hard questions about the public cost if the project is approved.
