facenews : Witch Black and Baby Blue

This post leaves me breathless every time I read it - and I've read it a few times by now. Something about the juxtaposition of that witch black hair and the baby blue eyeshadow. Perfect metaphor.

facenews : Good Grief, My Poor Car!

There is something about that feeling of being yanked away so suddenly from one's car. It's weird how attached people get. I still mourn the loss of one that I totaled 8 years ago. I know I'm ridiculous.

facenews : My Daughter Is More Than Her Virginity

Bravo! I couldn't agree with you more. What I like most about this post is that you have pointed out that the purity balls and rings still measure a girl's worth by her sexual status. I'd never thought of it that way, but you're absolutely right. Where are the purity balls for boys? If mothers accompanied their sons to those sorts of events, people would call them downright Oedipal.

facenews : Of Road Dogs And Lives Lost And Saved (Part 1 of 2)

This is haunting. Interesting you remember the print of her dress, but nothing about her. It makes sense - fixating on something impersonal in that horrible moment. As a writer, your timing is perfect.

What a picture - you guys all huddled together in a closet. We should be grateful every day for the freedoms we have. Thanks for the insight into that culture and time.

facenews : Quitting Coffee

An article I read in National Geographic says there is 40 mg of caffeine in a single shot of espresso - and 140 mg in a cup of coffee. Now that's a study I can live with. (Firing up the espresso machine as I write) Good to see you on here, Karen! This was a fun piece - your sense of humor comes out in your writing!

facenews : Hey chingpea, ‘I Miss The Kissing…’

I'm inclined to vote with the "breath issue" side. But I also think that some people who have been together a long time just forget to keep up the kissing and go straight for the score. I've had a kissing lull. It just needs to be rekindled, that's all. Oh - and I don't think kissing is better than sex...but it can be better than CHOCOLATE! Hee. On the other hand, a great kiss is better than bad sex. Just sayin'.

facenews : Lucky And Joe

I agree with Nick - this might just be my favorite of yours. I wish Joe had been treated in life half as nice as Lucky was after Joe's death. This story really gets to me. Makes me want to be a better person.
