I'd actually go a bit farther than Vickie Holbrook when she says “I'm all for charter schools, but the per-pupil funding should be the same, dollar for dollar” and argue that charter schools should get less. Charter schools siphon of the best and brightest that are motivated and easy to teach leaving behind the special needs kids, the bilingual education, and the rest of the unmotivated morons that the charters won't take. The same goes for the voucher system and privatization of schools. A voucher system will never totally replace public education and in the end just drive up the per pupil costs at the public schools.

Sisyphus, you accuse Chris of postulation and “believe the votes can be had” while the Dems are hopelessly out numbered in the Idaho Legislature? At least Chris said, earlier, that “I suck at teh math”. I'd love to see a coalition government but it's unlikely to happen in Idaho during my lifetime.

The list of events for St. Patrick's day doesn't include my favorite spot. My 2 daughters are Irish dancers and after 5 or 6 performances today they end up dancing for tips at 'Ha Penny in BoDo with live Irish music. Bribery seems to happen every day in the legislature. A bribe is defined as: “money or favor given or promised in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust” http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bribe and that definition seems interchangeable with lobbying when money or favor is involved: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lobbyis... and that situation was brought to light in the recent scandal involving the Idaho Association of Realtors lobby re-nigging on a bribe by refusing to give “money promised” because they were unable to influence the conduct of House Republican candidate Joan Cloonan of Garden City. http://www.idahostatesman.com/popkey/story/639063... Maybe if a few more legislatures had the brass Joan showed something would get done about it rather than just saying “bribery isn’t common in the Legislature.”

What, are you a farmer? Most of them complain not enough snow and rain all winter long and then complain that it came to late and the fields are too wet to work, but it happens most every year. A typical Idaho spring, wait a couple of hours and it will chang. Our old neighbor said it always snows for Easter, and he was right more often than wrong. Look at the bright side, less than 40 days until irrigation season now, I got some seeds started in the inside greenhouse today since the weather wasn't quite right for spring clean up. Putting the Snap Pea seed into the ground next week for an early crop. It's still 80 days before the tomatoes go in the ground.

My wife is Irish and ordered, ah requested, me to procure her a Guinness when we went to the Firehouse Pub in Meridian, last and was amazed at the newfangled machine they used. I did a little research on the internet and found that this is not your fathers Guiness: All About Beer The Guinness "Quick Pour" Dismayed at the time it takes to pour a perfect pint of Guinness, the makers of the famous Irish stout have devised a faster way to pour the ale, hoping to attract younger customers. "A two-minute pour is not relevant to our customers today," said CEO Paul Walsh of Diageo UDV, Guinness's parent company. With the new "Quick Pour" method, Guinness is poured into a glass without carbonation. The flat beer is then injected with an ultrasonic pulse that releases bubbles into the liquid. A white, foamy head appears in 15 to 25 seconds. The older Guinness slogan, "Good Things Come to Those Who Wait," loses its relevance with the "Quick Pour," the newest in a line of "improvements" to Guinness that include Guinness Extra Cold and Guinness Draught in a Bottle. Diageo reports that sales of Guinness are down 1% globally, 4% in Ireland and flat in the UK. Guinness isn't alone in wanting to serve customers more quickly. I know what you mean, Sisyphus, that's how I got spoiled. Back in the days before I became “Married With Children” and still had a few C notes in my wallet and some spare change in my drawer, I'd go deep down the west coast of Mexico every winter. The cooking down there and in central Mexico is so different from the Guadalajarin fare, it's like night and day.
