For a long time, I wondered why, while other countries in the world recognize our UEC qualifications, Malaysia does not.
It is an irony that the only country in the world that hase Mandarin stream in its national education system, yet she does not recognize the UEC qualification that goes along with it.
While there are a number of Chinese medium primary schools, there are few Chinese secondary schools and zero higher education institution like university.
So, many primary school students will have to go to national secondary school upon reaching form one. Those that are able to get into Chinese secondary schools, reach the end of the road in form five.
Now I understand. Maybe that's what the Education Ministry had intended. By not recognizing UEC, they want to discourage Chinese parents from enrolling their children into these Chinese schools.
Eventually, they hope to havesmaller Chinese school enrollment in years to come. One day, Chinese schools will come to an end.
