The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater.

Hiya. Thought this would be a great read. The Cycle is a completed series made up of four books in which, in very broad terms, a not-quite-ragtag bunch of misfits search for a Welsh King of yesteryear in modern day Virginia. There are many plot things that I won't try and describe, but I will note that the plot aspects of the book can be surprisingly complex, and entirely satisfying.

(I really hope someone comments on this with a better non-spoilery blurb. I'm really not great at this.)

The big draw of these books for me was the relationships between the characters. These relationships will often shift and change in meaningful ways - at no point does this feel undeserved. Each character is given the space to develop in their own ways. Friendship and Family are huge aspects of the books. Because the characters come from different backgrounds, issues such as various inequalities and privileges come up and are subsequently adeptly handled.

And I know that this comparison might raise a few eyebrows, but for me there was a bit of JK Rowling in this series, by which I mean that the first read is often quite deceptive, and further reads are almost a requirement because of it.

10/10, would recommend.

I would like to recommend Please Like Me - an Logie-winning Australian semi-autobiographical dramedy series written and created by comedian Josh Thomas. It currently has 16 episodes that are each 20ish mins long, with a third season of 10 eps confirmed to start airing in Oct 2015 (!!!). The show covers many topics, the most notable being homosexuality and mental health. It is probably the most challenging and unbearably awkward show that I have seen. Highs and lows and all the emotions. Please Like Me is a gift.
