<title>Womanist Musings : My Friend Was Raped</title>
<link>http://www.womanist-musings.com/2009/11/my-friend-was-raped.html#IDComment42396388</link>
<description>So I guess you have lived as a woman and a rape victim in both the US and one of those &amp;quot;barbaric countries&amp;quot;, if you can make a better comparison? It&amp;#039;s pretty arrogant to assume that you know more about what it&amp;#039;s like to live as a woman than a women themselves do. Even in &amp;quot;civilized&amp;quot; countries such as the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia, blaming the victim while defending the rapist is a commonplace occurrence. If you&amp;#039;re not being interrogated about what you were wearing/doing/etc, you&amp;#039;re outright accused of lying. This is true not just for rape, but any kind of sexualized violence against women -- harassment, groping, whatever. &amp;quot;Innocent until proven guilty&amp;quot; for the rapists has unfortunately been twisted to mean &amp;quot;guilty until proven innocent&amp;quot; for their victims. There are no saner countries for women to run to. </description>
