Hahaha, you can't get out of hand, it's your post!

I feel you, I really do, obviously. I am a firm believer in a wholistic approach as well, although it sometimes makes it difficult to effectively share Jesus when you have a person with such a great need they would sell themselves, their body parts, even their kids to fulfill some sort of need in their lives. They will often say, and do anything to get the help, puts into question their decision for Christ, right?

What I am saying, and advocating for, is equipping nationals to do their own ministry. The same applies in the states. We, the CHURCH, should be equipping people to minister to that family living in the station wagon, to the couple who's marriage is in collapse, or to someone in foreclosure thanks to the liars and cheaters manipulating the energy/stock/real estate market.

My recent post the alaskan funk—short term mission gone…meh…

I couldn't disagree more. Truth be told, if done right, these construction ministries can be some of the healthiest short term missions out there.

Let's be honest, the short term "experience" is not likely to produce any long term discipleship relationships. Both front line and behind the scenes short term teams are relying on a long term missionary to develop those discipleship relationships. So, if these construction teams are providing support to the long term missionary, ie building facilities where people can be equipped, they are great.

The problem with these construction teams is they lack the sex appeal. Nobody wants to head back home without a single picture of some poor brown person or a crying belly-bloated baby. These teams tend to be more visionary than the in your faceness of poverty tourism, ooops, I mean missions.

It is quite possible that even in this instance, perhaps there was a vision for that space, but they were unable to communicate it well.

I think it's His way of taking all the glory.

When I see the socially awkward, and I include myself among them, doing great things for God and you know there is no way they could do anything on their own, it screams to the power and glory of the God we serve.  If only the best of the best were doing God's work it could easily be perceived that those good works were being done by the created and not the Creator!

I guess that is why he is God.  He knows what He wants to do and what He wants us to do.

Thanks for taking some time to drop a line.  It's always a bit difficult laying it out there and not hearing back.

Thanks for the prayers.

We need to be praying for our cops! Let me tell you from experience, after witnessing what cops witness they are going to run to a savior. Sometimes is our Savior, but unfortunately most times it's the bottle, sex, pills, isolation, anything but Christ.
