Dancing Dog Blog : Corporate Charity: When Bloggers Unite, Who Really Benefits?

I had mixed feelings about participating in the Pedigree campaign too. One the one hand it's Pedigree which, let's just say is not a food I would give my dogs. On the other hand, most shelters can't afford what I feed my dog. On the third hand, it was a big corporation helping and bringing attention to shelters and shelter pets. I felt good about bringing attention to that. I would love to participate in a campaign to push the FDA and/or the pet food companies to raise the standards for pet food. Count me in.

Thank you! It's a pity that dog training/behavior mod is so often associated with serious problems and drama. It was bad enough before the popular tv shows, and they sure haven't helped. Make it fun and both ends of the leash are more apt to stick with it.

Dancing Dog Blog : Dog Attacks, Coyotes Stalking--What To Do?

Haven't used this yet. Looks interesting. I have no idea what works for coyotes, but I bet Premier's "Spray Shield" is worth a shot. It's a citronella spray that most of the "big box" pet stores carry.

Dancing Dog Blog : The Fight Over Pet Food vs Pet Food Safety

While I am still a little ambivalent about the FDA's warning regarding bones, I really like point #1. I am supposed to believe that as dog was domesticated, either via "adoption" or as an opportunistic scavenger, that he maintained a diet consisting of raw meat and bones? Did Paleolithic man starve his kids so his dog ate well? Why is it that the truly wild dogs we see today still live from scavenging around villages (Africa) and hanging around in garbage dumps (Mexico)? Why are they *thriving* if dogs should only be fed meat and bones? I need to get this into my editorial calendar. :-)

Dancing Dog Blog : Dangerous Dog Laws Keep Dogs & People Safe?

The underlying theme here is that "Pit Bulls" are somehow more dangerous and that they deserve to wear muzzle because of how they look. This is always going to be wrong. Great Danes are big and strong. So are St. Bernards. Many Goldens are too, and they actually lead the stats in bites from time to time....but muzzling them would be silly, right? Actually looking at bite statistics is a good idea. How has Denver fared with it's breed ban? Bites have gone up. Omaha? Stayed the same. The United Kingdom? They've gone up severely. Ontario? You get the idea, even if the people backing these laws don't..... I will continue to argue against Breed Legislation, but not only because it's unfair but because it doesn't work either, and if you really do want to protect people effectiveness ought to matter, not just the appearance of doing something for the sake of doing it.
