Thank you for respecting my right to believe whatever I choose to believe in. I don't thank you for the assumption that I haven't read both the books you mention, I have and others of the same kith and kin. They left me unconvinced by their arguments. I reciprocate your respect, you can of course choose not to believe in whatever you like!

Jihad Watch : Jihad Watch: Muslim imam misleads about Islamic apostasy in Florida convert custody case

I am not sure I understand your argument. And I am glad and not surprised that you and many other Muslims condemn killing people for being an apostate. But, you admit, do you not, that there is a debate within the Muslim Community about the merits and legitimacy of killing apostates? In much the same way I suppose there is a debate within the Church of England about the merits and legitimacy of female Bishops. I merely asked who the people arguing for killing apostates actually are? Your reply, (Ignoring the confusion caused by the "DO NOT do this" rant.) Seems to indicate that you are saying that these people are not Muslim, which appears to contradict your premise that the debate is within (your words, not mine) the Muslim Community. If they are not Muslim, but are within the Muslim community then who are they? I ask this because I am genuinely astonished that any one can argue that slaying someone for leaving or changing their religion can ever be a good thing. I would have hoped that this debate would have been concluded many many years ago. I am not Robert Spencer's cheerleader. Cheers, Eels

First, this issue is debated within the Muslim community Why? It would seem abundantly, obviously, crystal clear that putting someone to death for leaving or changing a religion is always wrong. Who are the people arguing otherwise?

Yuk, Just Yuk. Have you any idea how vulgar, patronising and asinine that sort of remark is? It, and those like it add nothing to any argument. And if you are labouring under the delusion that it is funny, and the stupid emoticom addendum suggests you are, then you are very very wrong. For shame AM

Jihad Watch : Jihad Watch: Pakistan: Enraged Muslim mob murders three more "blasphemers"

It is good to be able to laugh at ones Religion. I remember sitting with a very wise and gentle and older American surgeon once, late in the evening after a particluarly long and hot operation somewhere remote and middle eastern. It had ben a hard day and after just sitting there for a while we both started laughing, apropos nothing much. "D'you know what the 11th commandment is?" He asked when we had done. "Nope" I replied, my BBC English accent, contrasting his Texan accent. "Don't take it all too seriously." That has stuck with me. As much as I love Jesus, and I do, I love laughing too. God's gift. And Bigus Dickus is too. (and his wife - )

It is possible you are right, but it is not for us to do the killing, at least not defined soley as Christians. It may be right, of course, for us to be defended by the armed forces within which there could be Christians.

Jihad Watch : Jihad Watch: UK: Non-Muslim female police officers will wear headscarves when entering mosques

The question of how a Christian congregation would react to a provocative and unexpected arrival is an interesting one. In the church that I attended we were often visited by street people in various states of undress and drunkenness. Many shouted profanities and raged against God and us. Far from being shocked we as a congregation endeavoured to welcome these people as best we could, show them love and offer what help we could. Indeed the church now has a congregation numbering in the high 10s of ex street people who have been helped by the various programmes run by the congregation. I can never remember anyone being offended or shocked, frightened sometimes, but never enough to call the police. In short the attitude of the place was not - “This persons offends me!” rather “What can we do to show the love of Christ to this person.”____

How easily, nonchalantly even, some atheists assume the intellectual unassailability of their world view compared to that belonging to us poor unthinking believers. If you have truck with my belief that Christ is God, then out with it man, I can take it, same as I can take people scribbling in the Bible. But please stop the sarcastic false romanticism of religion, it isn't funny and gets us nowhere.

Why do you love the idea of spoiling the appearance of the the doctrine that there is only one God? That seems to me to be an ambition somewhat lacking in verve and imagination, why not go the whole hog and say you love the idea of destroying monotheism which is what I suspect you meant. That way we all know where you stand.
