Esgetology : Rethinking work

The problem with the Weedon method (because I sometimes use a variation of it called the Szeto method), is that I get so darn proud of myself for crossing everything off the list, that I don't bother to make a new list for several days. My method these days is to make piles of stuff. The really important things to get done for the week are placed on top of my computer keyboard (or a note reminding me to read, write, call, etc.) so I cannot avoid or forget them. Eventually, if I don't move a pile in several months, then I decide that there's nothing really important in that pile; go through it quickly; and discard most of it.

Esgetology : Sexagesima Snowpocalypse

Thank you, Pr Esget, for posting this. We will do the readings and then off to shovel snow (that is, if the condo parking lot has been cleared). God be with you.

Esgetology : When do you genuflect in the Creed?

Don't ask me for references--my only sources are other confessional Lutherans that I respect (and some that I work with) and a little bit of what mindset I want to put myself in. During the Creeds, I bow during the time Christ is on Earth (or under the Earth as He descended into Hell)--from conception to resurrection. I do this to humble myself and remind myself that I am a sinful human being in need of a Savior. I do this to remind myself that God loves me so much that He would do such a mysterious thing.

Esgetology : Poisoned Chalice?

The LCMS church I grew up in never used the chalice, only individual cups. When I moved and went to another church, I only used the individual cup even though the chalice was also used because that's what I grew up with and didn't think anything of it. However, when I visited several times at a new mission plant nearby, my practice was challenged because the new mission only had the chalice. The pastor, who had been a missionary in Africa for many years (all four of his children were born there), talked about how they would use only a common cup even though there were believers there with all sorts of diseases. For all his years there, he did not see anything to convince him that diseases were being passed via the common communion cup.

Thanks for reminding me that I constantly need a shot of humility when dealing with my brothers and sisters in Christ. (Especially when I'm right. ^_^ )
