http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/ : Consultation on closures of care homes will be just a box-ticking exercise, families fear - BelfastT

Just for once OX I'm going to agree with you. Where are all the concerned citizens? Where are the repubs and the United Irishmen. Where is irishrepublican, where is Rosie, where is Seamus or Bernard. In fact where are all of them? Oh that's right they are busy poking fun at a few women who do not enjoy their superiority of the Queen's English. Even so they display a large degree of ignorance. Never before has a political problem come up with so many of the human section of the populace Catholic and Protestant been in one voice. Starting with 'be very careful Poots et al' this is an area you will be absolutely required to get right!

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/ : We shouldn\'t let Gerry Kelly write history of Troubles - BelfastTelegraph.co.uk

So many of you repubs keep trying to elevate Pira terrorists to a status equivalent to that of the security forces who were ordered to come here to protect the people of Northern Ireland because of those same terrorists. You'll note I didn't find it necessary to put British in front of security forces. I'm blessed with the knowledge of where I live. When you and the rest of the United Irish people manage to understand that, then we will have a starting point. I have no trouble condemning the loyalist terrorism can you do the same with the shinners?

How do you manage to get through a day with so much hate in you? As one of the 'other two' on here I have to burst your bubble. No doubt the Brothers or the Reverend Fathers can keep you topped up with little anecdotes sufficient to keep you typing all day but none of those you mentioned paraded murderers, thugs and terrorists in the way your Martin did in defiance of the wishes of the people. I don't belong to any of the groups you mentioned here so as an independent observer it appears to me you don't need to worry about criticism of a peace centre. There isn't one and it doesn't look as though there is going to be one. Only one person is wriggling here and struggling to support the repubs but don't worry, the Ox and the yahoo/Europhile will be along soon and even dulally might look in to help. I note you are completely indifferent to the feelings of the two young people who started this thread off. How very republican of you.

I want to make sure I have this absolutely right. Firstly we have the ORANGE ORDER who glorify terrorism because they employ bands with UVF written on their drum. Then we have hundreds of thousands, not thousands, of people lining the pavements cheering them on some of whom are Unionists and some who are Loyalists who are also glorifying terrorism. Now there's a dulally who wanted the head of the ORANGE ORDER to attend gaa matches. I don't get what would have been achieved by that but I can sense all the repubs are struggling with their shrine but I don't call anyone a terrorist-loving repub simply because they have the noive (sic) to point out my hypocrisy. Now, if you have any decency, you'll stop posting here on a page which started out as congratulating the success of two young people who are the direct victims of the repub murderers.

Rosie, do you think you have something to hang your coat on with this 'the oo are glorifying terrorism by association with bands which have UVF on their drum' It looks very like grasping at straws. Still it's a useful insight into how you repubs think. You take something said in the 1930's which may have been a put-down read from a dusty old Irish history book and you are going to make the Orange Order of today pay for that? Surely you are not so upset at the loss of a terrorist shrine to people who did a lot more than have put-downs in speeches, I'm thinking bombs, bullets and running here, to struggle with a tenuous link to a flute band to allow you to try to make a full-blown charge of glorifying terrorism on the Orange Order? Check with Martin, he knows how to glorify terrorism properly.

Isn't it a good job we are allowed to post opposing points of view on this site and you will note this can be managed without childish insults.
If we are not going to allow any public signs of the glorification of terrorism then we must equally ban the OO from parading whilst they allow UVF bands to march alongside them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most when reading this would take it your are NOT accusing the ORANGE ORDER of glorifying terrorism rather you are accusing them of allowing bands with the name UVF on their big drum to parade thereby glorifying terrorism. Am I not right? I take it when you rudely command I read a "proper" history book you are referring to an Irish history book. Well, no thanks. I regard my British history books as quite proper and without a mention of the Battle of Ballyaughnashanlon in 1120.

Your wording could be a lot more careful. Do you simply mean the UVF bands should be banned? If that's the case we are not miles apart. I think the celebration of Protestantism you call OO could be vastly improved on with their removal and the show for tourists and locals made into a greater spectacle and as it was at a time something to be enjoyed by both religions. That was before your repub friends turned it into what it is today.

Tripe is a very good word for you to use! "I certainly hope that sensible people opt for the non-sectarian alternatives, de-clawing the Unionist Dinosaurs, however, since they have limited options I can see why they are playing the sectarian hard-line card yet again (always the Unionist game). " I'm assuming you are a young person. You would have given examples of these alternatives you speak of otherwise. Yes. all Unionists are disappointed with the leadership shown and the lack of dynamism and I can empathise with a lot of the points you make. However, the repubs have only one interest and that is to achieve a United Ireland and there can be no co-operation because of that, so if you are ok with that then happy days for you. You might find it interesting to make a list of the gestures and welcoming signs made by the United Irishmen since the GFA was signed. You won't need paper you will be able to write it on your fingernail.

Congratulations on your achievements despite the mountain you had to climb. I am full of admiration. It happens that the night of the La Mon disaster was the night my family had a get together each week for a meal and a few drinks. La Mon was our nearest nice place to go to. and we got to know the Huddlestons very well and loved the family atmosphere they created. However, the night of the disaster was on the day we had planned to move to the town where we all live now. So my sympathy for your loss is all the greater.

Whereas you, on the other hand, steer the middle ground so much you could almost be half Unionist. Ay Right! As it happens someone I admired very much was the late Tony Morelli of the ice cream family although his skill was in music. We were able to communicate regularly without any United Irishmen interfering. You don't speak for the Nationalist community so why you are allowed to do so beats me. You are an out-and-out repub and should restrict your comments to be said on behalf on the people who are destroying this place. The United Irishmen! Please don't tell us again Henry Joy McCracken was a Presbyterian. We were perfectly aware of that insignificant fact.

I have been struggling with the question "Why are the repubs so worked up about not getting this shrine?" Then someone wrote about "two warring communities." Well, I wasn't part of a warring community. I spent all of my time dodging ira bombs. I did absolutely nothing to harm any of the terrorists. Then, when you think about it, this shrine to the pira will elevate them to a status which appears to make them the equivalent of the defenders of this province during this time of their murders and maiming. Not if you built a hundred shrines could you glorify the evil perpetrated by these thugs. Those in uniform, and I'm not talking about a black beret, who had to face down these people and defeat them so as to save lives are those a shrine should be built for. The repubs propaganda department will have to work feverishly to change the truth but I fully expect them to try.

Who are these hard-line Unionists objecting to a terrorist shrine? I'm not a hard-line anything yet I object vehemently to this shrine to terrorism. Lets try to forget all about this ugly episode in our history as soon as we can. Why do the repubs feel so much more determined to have this edifice than anyone else? It would appear to be of sufficient importance to them to risk everything for its creation. Why? " most sensible unionists realise that is a good thing " Where do these wild statements come from? How does he know what any more than a few Unionists are thinking ? It's plain for all to see this is causing a great rift between United Irishmen and Unionists not between the Protestants and Catholics of Northern Ireland. They are doing OK if only they would be left alone. Some in the extremes of political unionism believe that they can unpick the Good Friday Agreement. "Some in the extremes of political unionism believe that they can unpick the Good Friday Agreement." Who are these people in the extremes of political Unionism and is he speaking of his interpretation of the Good Friday Agreement because his is such a different interpretation to mine.
Why, on top of everything else do we have to put up with the patronising of people who have "broadened their minds with travel?" Was it that big a deal packing a suitcase? None of you seem to have settled well in your new communities. Besides we have well-travelled contributors here. Are their minds less broad because they haven't stayed as long at journey's end? What is it about not making a return journey turns them into some sort of expert on Northern Ireland affairs. I hadn't heard of any of them before they left so maybe not as expert as they think. We are fortunate that a lot of our contributors are people of great intellect (I won't embarrass them by naming them.) So maybe they should think twice before playing the "my house is better than your house" game.
