Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Recruiting news

Nice... wonder if he is going to be a CB or WR? I know we are stacked at WR but we are lacking when it comes to true speedsters. Only James and Wheaton have elite speed at WR (I guess Catchings has pretty darn good speed but he doesn't play anymore for some reason). So this should be a nice pickup if he ends up at WR or CB.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Stanford fallout

I think the strategy for the Beavers in the CW has got to be force Darron Thomas to beat you. Sell out to stop the running game and hope Darron Thomas throws some bad balls.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Olander’s comeback

Orlander has plans to play in the NFL? He seems to small to play DT in the NFL? Is he fast enough to play DE in a 3-4. I would love to see him make it in the NFL I just am having a hard time seeing what his role would be.

Cliff, Did you disable commenting on the newest 2 blogs on purpose? Also on your most recent blog you questioned why Stanford plays on real grass.... I believe grass is actually more expensive in the long run than even the nicest turf (not positive on this) but it takes a lot of work to maintain grass.

I want to know who was calling the plays in place of Langsdorf and Riley... lol. I think that was the first time I have ever watched a Beaver game and thought "okay lets just keep it on the ground and run out the clock" and then seen the Beavers continue to stay aggressive all game long. It is going to take at least as great of an effort to become bowl eligible. I don't think we got USC's best effort. I hope the players remember that WSU game and play with the same fire for the next 2. I will be happy win or lose as long as they bring it.

Looks like a good player. Kind of odd we have 5 DE's in this class. Have to wonder if the bigger guys aren't going to be DT's or if the smaller guys don't end up at LB? Too bad coaches can't talk about it yet.

I agree Mike has had success in the past. But just because something has worked in the past doesn't mean it will work in the future. I am not saying to blow it up just saying you have to always be looking for ways to improve because everyone else is. I think Riley has done this and will continue to do this though.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Katz, leadership

lol... true. I think the defense needs a serious retooling. The majority of our opponents are running a wide variety of looks. WSU was running read options. I recall Cliff saying on the blog that OSU only face 2 or 3 teams a year that run that kind of stuff so the defense can't be tooled to face those kinds of attacks... well now over half our opponents are running spread option or similar attacks, time to retool.

It is one thing to lose to the Cougs who have been playing better as of late but it is something entirely different to lose without so much as a whimper of a fight.

Just a pathetic effort. It wasn't the fact we lost it was the fact the Beavers didn't seem to care if the Cougs were going to break their losing streak verse them. No fire whatsoever. We need to look deep and make some changes this season and in the off season. Don't know if that means personnel or system but something must change.

I guess it depends on how you view power rankings. To me power rankings should be a snapshot. Right now I don't think there is a team in the Pac-10 the Beavers would beat. Sure they have played better than last place in the past and their record backs it up but right now I agree with Cliff. Records aren't the end all be all for power rankings, power rankings are more an eyeball test.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Kicking and punting

Kind of odd they didn't have Hecker working on the Rugby punt in the off season after that Vegas Bowl. Oh well special teams have been great minus the actual kickers. It is just frustrating because when they are on they are such great kickers but they are just inconsistent... reminds me of my golf game.
