Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Saying Merry Christmas.

so since you referenced a show, can I also? I just watched last night's episode of Big Bang Theory and there was a humorous scene in the beginning where Sheldon explains Sir Isaac Newton's relation to Christmas. And then Leonard replies with "Merry Newton-mas"..that just may catch on :)

So a group actually IS using Jesus for their cause: National Association of Latino Elected Official is encouraging people to take part in the 2010 census by reminding them that "This is how Jesus was born...Joseph and Mary participated in the Census." Here is a link to the poster and an article about it: http://usat.me/?37034002 Anyway...saying Happy Holidays doesn't bother me because it acknowledges the other nearby holidays that I celebrate (Thanksgiving, New Years) (plus I don't find it offensive if someone wants to celebrate Hanukkah) it's when someone deliberately replaces Christmas with "holiday" such as the "holiday tree" but even then, all I do is leave a post on a blog about it, so I guess it really doesn't bother me that much.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Taking notes during sermons.

haha! I used to anticipate the word too! And my friend and I would give ourselves points for each correct word and see who won! But our current pastor doesn't use those...so now I don't take notes. Big fat 0 for me!

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Seeing your pastor in the wild.

I'm reminded of this past summer when my husband, who is a student minister, and I along with a few friends went to The Melting Pot to celebrate my birthday. While being seated, he saw a student from the ministry so he stopped by the table to say hello. I wasn't there so I don't know the exact words, but basically the student expressed how surprised he was that we could eat at a place like that. My husband felt the need to explain that we were celebrating a birthday and we don't usually spend that much on a meal, but I still think it was somewhat unnecessary.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Arguing about whether heaven will serve Chick-fil-A or In-n-Out (Part 2)

I don't work there, but having many friends who have, I have heard the story and wish I could relay it better. But basically, they are trained to- because as you said it is respectful and makes the customer feel important
