Lead editorial in the WSJ today claims that US manufacturing by itself would be 8th largest economy in the world by itself. Sorry that they won't me link to it, but I only have a print subscription. Problem is that, unlike healthcare, US manufacturing has increased the dollar output per job so fast that manufacturing is not creating jobs. The type of manufacturing that we do in the US doesn't require as many people per million dollars of output as the manufacturing that they are doing in China does.
