KOMO - Seattle, WA : Storm to use SPU\'s court for practice facility | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Wea

While I respect the fact that ~you~ may not be interested in the WNBA, it's a fallacy that NO ONE cares about them, or else the team would have been disbanded or moved long before now. I personally couldn't give two poofs in a windstorm about the Mariners, for example (I'm married to a devoted Angels fan), but I respect the fact that the Mariners have a devoted fan base, even if I'm not among them. (Incidentally, I think the Storm players are compelling examples of talented female athletes; I wish them all the best.) But to return to your comment... Universal statements - including: never, no one, always, everyone, etc. - are usually false, unless we are dealing with objective, linear data not overly shaded by one's beliefs. Even then, it depends on other parameters, like Quantum Mechanics and the impact of one's intent and consciousness on this and other parallel universes. (See the book Quantum Enigma - a fascinating book I was blessed to receive as a Yule gift.) Just saying... In any event, I wish you well.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Washington, other states weigh legalized marijuana | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and

Agreed. A couple of things I'd add to the discussion: 1) Marijuana does not need to be smoked to be imbibed. One can cook or bake with it - spicy spaghetti, anyone? There are also "vaporizers" that allow the user to inhale a stream of warm mist, NOT hot smoke. The substance is not actually burned, so there is no soot or tar, etc. Much easier on the body. I'm looking at getting one for use with salvia divinorum (or other herbs like damiana, etc.) in my work and spiritual practice as a shaman. 2) The comments about driving while under the influence. DUI laws already exist (and frankly, should be even tougher). DUI means driving impaired by ANY SUBSTANCE, legal or illegal - you can even get a ticket for being foggy from cold medication. So we've already got the laws and mechanisms in place for catching and punishing those who "smoke and go for broke." But really... I recall marijuana as a "smoke a bowl, eat a Twinkie, take a nap" experience. Ah, the 70s...

Your anger is justified! I too am angered, and left with an aching grief that this happened to the dear lady. Nobody deserves to have their life end that way. I have heard a bit about the issue of monopolies in elder care facilities, but admit I'm not well-versed. There certainly is no shortage of predatory and heartless practices within this field, of that I'm sure. May your Christmas be peaceful and joyous, sir.

Dr_C, I am so very sorry to hear about what happened to your mother. I cannot possibly imagine how horrifying those revelations must have been for you to hear. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and I wish all of you peace. I hope that memories of happier times with your mother will be of some comfort during the holidays.

Gordon, no one could or should attempt to "justify" what happened to you. What happened was horrific child sexual abuse (CSA). and it's NOT based on whether someone is gay or not. . It happens more frequently than people want to admit - trust me, I know. It's the child abuse that's inherently wrong, NOT the sexual orientation. Just as relatively few straight men sexually abuse young girls (unless they're pedophiles), it is the EXCEPTION rather than the rule that adult males assault young boys, or adult women assault young girls. In any case, regardless of orientation, it is the pedophilia that is horrific - the sexual abuse committed, the shattered trust of a child. That is the wrongness. People who are "straight" commit more of these crimes, numerically, than gays and lesbians do. So, please... Learn the difference. Just like you don't blame Polish people because your burglar happened to be named Wajahowski, it's not fair to see all gays as your abuser, or potential abuser. Many of us work tirelessly to advocate for the protection of children against any and all abuses, Please, open your eyes a bit. And know that I'm aching for you. You'll be in my prayers.

What a great post, and what a great reminder that "freakdom" is in the eye of the beholder. If you are looking at a sampling of the wonderful transvestites and drag queens/kings at Pride, then some heterosexual Betty Crocker wannabe lady who's wearing an apron and pearls, and who's handing out sack lunches, is an UberFreak. It's all about one's perspective. I celebrate everyone's need and right to "get their freak on" now and then, as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult. It's always helpful to remember that some of the most amazing artists across time and history have been marginalized in their own lifetimes, only to be recognized as genuises after their death. Mozart, anyone?

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Local Congressional leaders weigh in on health care reform | KOMO News- Seattle, Washington| Local

It's disheartening to witness the up-in-arms folks, fearful that Big Government is going to ruin their health care, have "death panels," and generally embody the Orwellian nightmare of Big Brother in this arena. These individuals don't realize that they're being PLAYED, and in a big way. A former senior executive of CIGNA has come forward, and has revealed that (surprise!) insurance companies are behind the scare tactics and slickly run campaigns that assert the ridiculous ideas that you hear shouted about - none of which are TRUE. I understand why they're lobbying so hard - their obscenely high profits might drop a tad if they actually end up covering (gasp!) sick people. I participated in a conference call with Jay Inslee, in which he addressed various questions on this issue. People could keep their same doctor, their same insurance coverage as they have now, under the proposed plan. The public option would be an ALTERNATIVE, for people who don't have other coverage. Whichever you choose, you would have MORE control over your healthcare, rather than having HMOs drive all the decisions like they do now. Please, don't let hysteria and fear manipulate your beliefs. You can fact-check claims you hear by going here: <a href="http://bit.ly/26XfKp" target="_blank">http://bit.ly/26XfKp Also, a fascinating documentary by the BBC has been posted on YouTube, and here's a link to Part 1: http://bit.ly/fu2q0

Thanks for posting this, Genia. I clicked on each of the Tweeters above, and went to their page so I could proactively "block" them on Twitter. That way, they can't follow me, and I won't end up interacting with them. Spammers are a lower form of life, seriously. Well, I guess I'd befriend one of them WAY before I'd interact willingly with a homophobic right-wing nut job.

Indeed! KOMO seems to have a higher-than-average incidence of rather blatant proofreading "misses." Back when I did proofreading for corporate annual reports and materials of that nature, we had a sign in our department - "Always Roofpread Your Work!" I know the pressure's on to scoop the competition in the news business, but it doesn't take THAT long for an actual human being to read for errors in content.
