Unfortunately the GOP leadership does not want a moderator like Hewitt (or any conservative who will turn the screws and reveal who really is and is not conservative). They think that kind of a process will leave a nominee too "torn up" by the process to be effective enough in the general. They'd rather field a few questions from John King or Wolf Blitzer and cry media bias than sweat their way through a two-hour grilling from Megyn Kelly. At least Candy Crowley's no longer with CNN, so she won't be there to provide the Dem talking points.

Right, the progs understand that when their true intentions become obvious it costs them as far as power goes once in a while (they know "two steps forward, one back" every quarter century still amounts to one step forward). The trick is to get voters not to be so stupid as to put them into power in the first place, and that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Couple that with the GOP habit of totally blowing it whenever they have control and it's a real problem.

To a great degree I'm guessing said "conglomerate" gets a kickass writeoff for the losses. There's money there somewhere... kind of like when a lousy NFL franchise loses money year after year but when they're up for sale people are still willing to pay hundreds of millions of dollars for them.
