This is brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. I've been waiting a long time for someone to write about dating and relationships in an intelligent way. Not that what came before wasn't smart, interesting or useful, but the author builds a compelling argument, based on research. So it takes an academic approach to the topic (of which I approve!). That last paragraph about the intersection between dating, spectacle and the economy is especially interesting to me. I need to think more about that, clearly, but it's what really makes me want to read this book.

That and hopefully finding an effective way to deflate people when they come at me with evo-psych-talk.

This will not address your current problem, but once, in an interview, I inadvertently overestimated my salary by $10,000 and it worked out well for me! I got that 10K raise. I am bad at impromptu math.

You can certainly teach yourself using Wheelock, but you must be diligent about memorizing the paradigms and vocabulary in each chapter. This involves drilling yourself on declensions, conjugations, etc. I believe there is an answer key to the sentences available online. Also, expect this to take some time - I tell my students to expect 1-3 hours of homework every night.

Timely! I am about to start watching this show as we speak. #13 will probably be too hard for me to resist.

Are you going to have a car? Really the best thing to do is drive around, and if you're staying by the beach, walk around. The countryside is beautiful throughout the island and there are lots of small towns to stop in. The drive along the coast from Brackley Beach to Cavendish is really nice. I have a fondness for the PEI Preserve Company in New Glasgow (jam is my jam, and the jams there are delicious). Charlottetown is a really nice small city, with a downtown that's perfect for a day or two. There are some good restaurants and breweries there, as well as a nice farmer's market. Outside of Ch'town is Victoria-by-the-Sea, a small coastal town, where I remember eating a really good lobster roll. If you're into seafood, definitely find yourself a good lobster roll or lobster supper, mussels and malpeque oysters.

The Cavendish area has gotten increasingly touristy in the last few years, but the beach and the Anne house are totally worth it. Unless you're really hardcore (or maybe someone else can attest otherwise), Avonlea Village is overrated.

If you're into cheese, a company in PEI (I can't remember now, maybe Cows or ADL or some local producer) makes some excellent sharp cheddar.

It's been a while since I've lived there (and I was only there for a year or so), but I'll let you know if I can think of anything else. Regardless, you'll have a great time. PEI is a wonderful place to go for a slow, relaxing vacation.

I wouldn't worry about the situation at all. Technically, it's not your problem (though I see where it intrudes in your life). Coffin Tops is a stupid name, but you have to let them sort this out on their own. They've got to figure out their own relationship problems like grown-ups. Unless they tell you directly you are Yokoing the band, then seriously shut that shit down, because fuck you dudes. You can't blame your disfunction on a lady with an opinion/presence/existence.

I'm in complete agreement with this, and with many of the other points raised in the comments. I've been reading SE since its beginning, but in the past year or two (maybe more?) have just stopped because the content isn't very good. I don't care about the best lasagna, made according to a "scientific" recipe, with 150 steps. A really good lasagna, an excellent one, one with a great story, from a particular region, whatever, is what I'm interested in. They used to have series where chefs would contribute recipes and/or techniques- I loved that! They were informative yet not overly long. Some of my favorite recipes were discovered that way. Ed Levine had a greater input in the early years, and I loved reading what he had to say.

I'm sure Kenji is a fine person (at least I hope), but I dislike his approach to writing recipes. This is certainly a reflection of justmytaste (TM), but my real problem is that it seems to dominate the site, as do kitchy recipes. His tone is exactly as you describe - aggressive. I realize that some (or many) may find the laborious, overly detailed, pseudo-scientific process helpful or enlightening, but it removes all the joy from cooking and replaces it instead with instructions and methodologies that I HAVE to follow. And I never read it! It's boring! And pedantic!

I've moved on to food52.

It's a tie, between Wuthering Heights and Anne of Green Gables (the first three books especially).

If you want a more alcoholic punch, mix 1 part campari to 2 parts gin, add a splash of soda and a generous slice or wedge of orange. Served on the rocks. It's not quite a negroni. Good mixers for Campari include prosecco, orange juice, gin, vodka, mezcal and vermouth.
