I can't say it would be bad, but maybe not the best way to apply tax to all individuals. The man at the grocery store that pulled out a wad of Franklins to purchase liquor and cigs, loaded down with more bling than my credit card credit limit (and it's pretty hefty) could handle, driving that Navigator, and using a Bridge card (in Michigan, same as food stamps) to purchase his groceries is obviously not going to be affected by a flat tax. He would, however, have paid a fair share of tax, regardless of his income sources, if we had a federal sales tax. Immigrants would be paying taxes. I think an exemption to 'visitors' could be made, where they could apply to be re-imbursed for a certain amount, based on the length of their visit. We'd be talking no other exemptions here. I've come to believe that you're generally voting for the lesser of the evils. I felt McCain would have been best for the country with what we had available to vote on in the presidential election. For the cap and trade, again, this current administration is running at sprint pace and I don't see McCain leading the charge like that. I suspect he'd have weighed the options more heavily before pushing anything through. The first bailout? He's not the only presidential candidate that voted for it. Amazing how he's the one that got all the (negative) press. As for his demeanor during the campaign, he definitely should have shown his harder edge. He gave the impression he could be trod all over and he'd just smile the whole time. You can hope to never have to use your gun, but if you're ever threatened and placed in that position, you should know what you want to aim for, and the rules and laws (yep, we conservatives do follow them, don't we?) that would apply in that type of situation. One thing I learned in mine was that IF you ever have to defend yourself AND you've taken a course, you've generally got better standing with the legal system (though that will probably change with this administration, also).
