HGTV Design Star : Preview of Challenge 9: The Finale

I really think they are looking for a totally different kind of designer. Antonio is more like some of the hosts on the DIY network. Brash and in your face. Dan, on the other hand, is just like all the other designers on HGTV. Nice guy, has a nice smile, kind of whimsical. I have no input in the decision. It's up to the judges this season. Hopefully, next season, HGTV will let the viewers decide who should have their own show. Although, I voted for Kim two seasons ago. I did not like her show at all. I found her designs rather pedestrian and her tone was a bit too condescending for my taste. Too bad they can't bring Todd back from that same season. The judges want WOW and out-of-the-box thinking??? Todd is definitely the one to do that!!

I watched her first show. It was a total tear jerker. The couple she did the design for were warm and really needed a Paint Over. Unfortunately, I think Jennifer's designs left a lot to be desired. Most of her ideas reminded me of the 70's. I am willing to give her shows a bit more time to mature. After all, Candice Olsen, wasn't "the" Candice Olsen on her first show either. That said, if Jennifer came to me and said she wanted to Paint Over a few rooms in my home, I would not turn her away!

I would watch an Antonio show. I think Dan has the best designs so far. BUT...he seems like a cookie cutter designer. In my opinion, he makes me feel like I'm watching any other designer on HGTV. At least Antonio isn't like every other designer.

I'm shocked that Antonio is wearing a regular dress shirt and slacks in the teaser video. I think this is the first time I've seen him in something other than jeans and a shirt.

I'm rather shocked that the final design, or any challenge for that matter, is an entire house. Are they giving them the same kind of crew that Candice uses? Do they have more than 40 hours to get it done? This is a huge challenge and it would be unfair if they are expected to get it done with the help of just one or two people and only have 20-30 hours. I wish them luck!

HGTV Design Star : David's Vlog: Lay Off Dan's Giggling

I think Dan's room was the best. The only thing I did not like was the boat mobile. Which all the judges, including David, seem to think is the best thing since hot sliced bread. Oi. Lonni's room was, yet again, unfinished. Just another piece in the long line of incomplete projects from her. And really!!! Another focal wall? Paa-lease. Enough with the focal walls. I did not even notice that Antonio gave us a look at his hosting ability during the "big reveal." I can't understand most of what he says at any given moment. "Bam! Here it is!" I think his room was the weakest this episode. I love purple, it's my fav color. I don't want it on my walls. He totally missed the WOW in the conversation area. And covering up the fireplace??? Comon' dude. Who doesn't love a roaring fire...even in LA????

Oi. I can't stand her focal walls. They are hideous. That's all she can do. Focal walls. She has not finished one of her projects. The headboard was just another in the long line of incomplete rooms.

I agree with you on your comment. I'd like to see Todd back. If their (the judges) are looking for a WOW factor, Todd was the only one who could bring it.

I can't believe Lonni paid $$$ to someone to producing that horrible web site! Or else you have the wrong link mentioned above. Yikes that is a disaster. I designed and programmed web sites for a living. I know what a good web site is and that ain't one of them! As for Lonni's designs, all I can say is 'bout time she left the show.

Your all wrong. Lonni can only do focus walls. And this one was worse than the chevrons. What a hideous design she came up with. She is truly a one trick pony. Antonio did an OK design. I did not see the Zen in any of it. I would have preferred to see real wood floors. Not laminate. Dan did the best design of all of them. His design was warm and inviting. And designed to grow with the child. Although I did not care for the boats hanging from the ceiling. What a dust collecting nightmare.

I'm totally thrilled that Lonni was sent home. She is still doing the focus wall with some sort of weird, ugly design on it. If I walked into my room and saw that ugly blue design on the wall, I would have ripped it right off the wall. She is truly a one dimensional designer. As for Antonio, I did not care for the purple walls. Although, purple is my favorite color. I think he also missed on the accessories and the conference area. It was so small. I wasn't sure what kind of area it was. Dan did a wonderful job on the nursery. I really can't find any flaw in anything he did except for those boats hanging off the ceiling. What a dusting nightmare those would be. But, maybe they have a housekeeper.

I wonder if HGTV is paying attention to the fav fan voting? I can not believe Jany is getting so many votes. There must be a glitch in the system. She wasn't on the program long enough for anyone to accurately assess her design work.

I'm tending to agree with you about the contestants not having enough time and help to really give us a sense of what they can accomplish. The time frames are ridiculous. Four people working in that huge backyard doing everything themselves. Amazing they even completed it. Just for comparison, Ahmed, DIY Yard Crashers, is given two days to complete a yard makeover. BUT, he has a crew of however many people it takes to get the yard completed.
