The bible says "spare the rod, spoil the child". Of course, it also says that if someone eats shellfish, everyone else in the village should throw rocks at their head until they die. It's a confusing book. Come to think of it, there's a line in Dueteronomy that says "If two men are fighting over land and one man's wife grabs the testicles of the other man, she shall be put to death. Show her no mercy." Good stuff to teach your kids.

They did the same thing back in 2003 and 2006. They do this all the time. The North Koreans are constantly talking smack about war, but it's not in their interest. Also, it's not in South Korea's interest, since their capital, one of the most populated cities in the world, is within artillery range of the North. This is just political theater, ongoing since 1953. And by the way, we invaded Iraq because we knew they didn't have WMD's. If we thought they did, would we have sent 160,000 American troops to their certain demise?

Already the majority of replies call me condescending, however, I never once said anything about my own intelligence, only comparing liberals against conservatives. Also, none of the replies so far have specifically addressed any of my points. Notice that in my post, I did not use any name-calling, only stated my argument. Not surprisingly, the name-calling in the replies proves my point.

When I heard about the 912 project, I was intrigued. As an independent libertarian with no party affiliation, I liked the idea of folks working together to build a consensus. I thought the 9 principles seemed a bit glib, especially number one, but I was willing to give the site a chance. I especially like the Vent section, because that's where regular folks can get together and speak freely, exercising our first amendment rights. On any website's comments section, there are generally a great mix of people, with some being more articulate than others. And although I have conversed with some very intelligent and reasonable people on this site, I have to admit, I'm not impressed with the average IQ. It's extremely rare for anyone on this site to carefully think through an argument, provide evidence for their claims, or even make sense. The ratio of thoughtful points to insane babbling is not impressive. Being an independent libertarian with no party affiliation gives me a unique perspective on American politics. I can see the strengths and weaknesses of both liberals and conservatives. I read both the liberal and conservative press. I have both liberal and conservative friends. Both sides have some thoughtful folks, and both sides have some lunatics. Both major political parties are more concerned with power than principle, and both use underhanded techniques to win. But I have to be honest with you, folks, if you compare liberal blogs and websites with conservative blogs and websites, the average IQ of liberals is noticeably higher. I may not always agree politically, but their level of logic, not to mention grammar and spelling, is higher than on the average conservative site. Their points are more clearly articulated, they are less likely to go off on a tangent, and they generally have a point. Rarely on liberal blogs do I see things like PRESDENT IS TAKING FREEDUMS!!!! WE NEED STAND UP, FIGHT SOCALSM!!!! and other types of incoherent babbling. They less often fall prey to logical fallacies like false dichotomy. Conservatives, in their discourse, are more likely to stoop to kindergarten-level name-calling. Their arguments tend to be simpler, devoid of subtlety and nuance. I see lots of statements like "Facist dictator Obama is going to enslave us!" On what planet does that make any sense? Is this sentence ever backed up with any reliable facts? I have my disagreements with Obama, but I don't think he's a fascist slave master. Look, folks, many credible, wide-ranging studies have been performed by psychologists on the differences between liberals and conservatives. The more educated and less religious a person is, the more likely they are to be liberal. This is why conservatives consider liberals "elitists," a word that conservatives use to mean "smarter than me". Do you think it's a coincidence that the majority of political scientists, psychologists, journalists, and historians are liberals? The people who spend the most time studying politics, history, and the human mind? On any college campus, those departments are overwhelmingly liberal. The only heavily conservative department on any college campus is the business department, the department that specializes in narrow self-interest. In a study performed by the University of Maryland in 2004, researchers found that not only did liberals know more about liberal candidates than conservatives, they knew more about conservative candidates than conservatives. Another study polled people on their knowledge of current issues, and asked them about their primary source of information. The category of people who knew the least about current issues were those whose primary source of information was Fox News. I'm not trying to start a fight here, but I feel the need to confront this issue. I'm curious what you folks think about my claim that liberals, on average, tend to be more intelligent, compassionate, and informed than conservatives.

It's not a bad idea to be prepared. America, with about 5% of the world's population, uses about 25% of the world's physical resources (oil, steel, copper, etc). The main reason we are allowed to do that is that our currency is the de facto world reserve currency. So while other nations must create and trade products to get dollars to buy things like oil, we can simply print more dollars. It's not fair, but the rest of the world has tolerated that arrangement for decades because the dollar was the world's most stable currency. Unfortunately, the dollar is tanking. With the banking system insolvent, and the federal government unable to pay even the interest on our debts, the other nations are slowly liquidating their dollars and switching to a basket of currencies. Unfortunately, in the years since the dollar became the world currency, the US outsourced its manufacturing base to poor nations. As a result, we don't make anything anymore. So when the bottom falls out of the dollar, it'll get ugly. We might be able to stave this off for a few more years, but not forever. So growing vegetables, raising livestock, learning to fix things, stocking up on dry goods like lumber and tools, is a good idea. However, let's not panic. Also, now might be a good time to get to know the local hippies. They may not agree with you politically, but most of them are pretty friendly and they probably already know how to live in a yurt or geodesic dome, How to grow sustainable crops with a good blend of necessary nutrients, how to convert waste into fertilizer, how to create clothing out of raw fibers, how to make soap, etc. And they might be happy to have friends with guns, since hippies tend to shy away from guns. Free and fair trade helps us all. When hillbillies and hippies work together, the spirit of America is alive.
