Boise State turned down a series with Nebraska. Yes, Nebraska wanted (and deserved) a 2 for 1 home series advantage. Boise State cannot seriously expect top ten teams to do a 1 for 1 home/away series with them given their 32,000 seat capacity smurf turf stadium. So, I am no longer buying the "no one will play us" whining from Boise State.

They are clearly the bottom two football conferences. I put the ACC last because Clemson, Fla. State and Miami of the ACC have been down the last few years and Cinc., West Va., Pitt., and UConn. of the Big East have been on the rise.

This is the comment I tried to post on Feinstein's blog: John, this is not among your best work. The only thing Boise State proved by beating VT in a very close game is that it can compete with the best of the ACC. The ACC being the worst of the BCS conferences. The real question you should be asking is how VT, the second best team in the ACC last year (including a mediocre win over a weak Tenn team in the Chicken Bowl) and only ten returning starters, gets ranked in the top ten?

The idea that anything "does not symbolize what everyone thinks it does" is novel, and demonstably false. The Confederate flag brings to mind exactly what everyone thinks it does - the Confederacy, i.e., it symbolizes the attempt by Southern States to leave the United States in order to perpetuate the enslavement of African Americans. That is a symbol most, but as demonstrated by the two posters above, not all, people find offensive.

You are exactly right. And, unfortunately Hlas' claim that this won't make any difference in the BCS is as wrong as his claim that Penn State is better than Iowa. Mike: Aren't you suppose to come up with tortured reasoning to rank the local team higher, rather than lower? That's what other sports writers do and it is one of the reasons why Iowa has not gotten the national respect it deserves this year. Your column will now be cited as one reason to jump Penn State over Iowa for a BCS bowl. If that happens pitchforks and torches will be too good for you.
