Dan Lynch Online : Kids and Social Networking.... Good or Bad? Pt1

Great question Kelli and not one that's easy to answer. My opinion would be you follow similar rules you'd post for them. ie: stay away from facts that help Predators identify your kids, where they live, go to school, etc. Not sure funny pictures on Twitter cause issues (I enjoy yours) but I'd use caution with certain facts. One non-kid example is a friend I work with recently got on FB and Twitter for the first time as well as started a new blog. One of his first posts was to talk about his upcoming vacation, when he'd be gone, where he was going with the Family, etc. I emailed him showing him several \"safety\" rules he had broken... ie: now anyone on FB (he had an open account) knew when he was going to be away from his home. Not a tough step to find where he lives, etc.

I also recently found out one of my nieces has her name/age as her email address. I helped get that changed quickly.

Glad you understand. :-) And I agree many of the sites seem safe if parents are helping their kids not communicate with usernames and such as below. As you may know we have one young relative who has her name and age in her email address currently.
