KATU - Portland, OR : Cheney: Trying 9/11 suspects in NYC \'huge mistake\' | KATU.com - News - Portland, Oregon | National

We continue to always see the same picture of this guy. Now for months and months. Is it that they don't have any new ones? Or, does the media just want to promote victim-hood with this guy because the one picture looks like he was beat up by someone?

KATU - Portland, OR : Can your pet catch the swine flu from you? | KATU.com - News - Portland, Oregon | Problem Solver

Oh no!!!!!! Wonderful Wonderful.... I see it coming! Now I'm gonna have the government soon mandate that my pets are vaccinated for the flu as well!? ha ha... (I shouldn't laugh)... Well, given the great efficiency that our government has had at distributing the human PIG_FLU vaccine, I cannot wait to see the multitudes of folks who will suffer (and yes probably die prematurely) when they slam this healthcare bill down our throats! And to all you owners of pigs for pets (mine is spider-pig)... alas, our day has come.

Well, KATU properly filed this article under the "entertainment" section. at least something done right here. Just who is the government trying to kid or are they trying to inject more Obama "hope" into the veins of the country? Seems like every couple of weeks they come up with statements like "recession over" "happy days are here again"... Neither wallstreet having a few days of upsurgence in it's activity/pricing nor some of the larger corporations showing increased sales (mostly overseas?) are indicators of the economy doing anything sustainably positive. We sit nationally at 10% of the working-capable people pulling unemployment benefits, and probably over 20% of people who need to work but have no opportunity (includes those whose unemployment benefits have run out, part time workers, etc). Get these numbers down to less than half of this and we can talk about a recession/depression end. Not until.

KATU - Portland, OR : Obama declares swine flu a national emergency | KATU.com - News - Portland, Oregon | National & Worl

Is Obama kidding? 1000 deaths nationally when the normal seasonal flu takes 8-15K a year on an average basis? Just what the heck is going on? Perhaps this is his prelude to marshall law? And just where do the professed "facts" come that this virus is mutating? Media/government scare/hype tactics one in all!

Why oh why can't the media vultures allow the police to do their job? Who the heck cares if it takes a day, a week, a month to respectfully and completely recover her remains? As well, what if there are OTHER bodies near the area. Just let the enforcement officers, investigative and morture people do their jobs and get off this "got to see where she was buried" kick already!

KATU - Portland, OR : H1N1 virus hits local grade schools | KATU.com - News - Portland, Oregon | Local & Regional

run for the hills folks!!! A single person has been confirmed again with the dreaded swine flu! OH NO MR BILL!!!! The media says "panic" and it seems that everyone does. Australia (yes those folks in the southern hemisphere) already had their winter flu season (yep, whilst we're basking in the summer sun here in the north they freeze thru their winter in the south) and they had no problems with this flu. In fact it shows to be mild in comparison to the normal run-of-the-mill virus. Overall, it was not as bad as a "normal" flu season when the media isn't crying the sky is falling! Makes one wonder if the media/pharms/government simply aren't prepping us for marshall law, to impose some forced vaccination process on us with untested vaccines. It cannot simply be the media has nothing else to report! Come on!

KATU - Portland, OR : #1 Ohio State beats

Now, given I know that there are a lot of unruley activist judges out there, and to tell the truth, I'm for having them, and about 99.9999% of all lawyers completely dis-barred. Still I see red flags all over this action/decision, as there is no background, no rebuttal, nothing except the state's opinions. For all we know, Mr. Kroger is spinning recent decisions to make it look like they are doing the right thing, even as far as fabricating the cases sited. I'm constantly reminded of an old bumper sticker that was printed when I was a bit younger.... "Question Authority!".

I am not familiar with any of the cases which have gone up in front of this judge in question, but I find it very interesting how the "state" here feels it has been unfairly represented, and then can wield its strong arm to get "its way" in the matter. I also find it very interesting that this is the first anyone hears of this (i.e. there is no probationary period, sets of warnings, correction process in place) for the judge, but the state comes in and says "we don't like the way you do things, so YOU"RE GONE!!!" hence judge Darling is thrown under the bus. This is so typical of a totalitarian state, and then to have the media, (yes KATU, you included!), just sit there, report it ONLY from the "state's" point of view, not dig into it, question it, challenge it. I suppose there is no money in doing journalism any longer is there?

I think that everyone here is missing the big point and/or KATU has the streams of comments mixed up with the wrong articles (probably the latter). This article and the decision made by Mr. Kroger is certainly at best one-sided. There is not a word here from the judge D. Darling, nor will there ever be I suspect as this is purely a governmental decision behind closed doors.

Poor WMI. Having grown up in the garbage industry (and yes, there are 3 things in life that are guaranteed: 1) death 2) taxes 3) garbage) I have watched this industry go from small mom-pop organizations to mafia-run organizations to now federally controlled but PC wannabe's. Garbage is and always has been just that... garbage. People will always have trash, regardless of what is recycled in both the organic and inorganic, toxic/non-toxic reaches. The Feds again have made it nearly impossible to operate even for this large corporation as the criteria for putting together a land-fill operation is about as complex as for putting together a nuclear waste site facility. Just another hazard of our over-reaching control-hungry government putting their foot and face where it simply does not belong.

Yes, right around 23-24% unemployment. All the news agencies continue to just report the new/existing claims for unemployment. Since benefits run out over a period of a year, those that are still unemployed as they have not found work are dropped from the number the state/fed reports. They are STILL unemployed however. They can be tracked too (simply by questionaire) but are not. Hate to say it, but we're still in for a rough ride in the economy folks. I know the goverment would like to have you believe it is turning around, but it simply isn't.

Actually, I enjoy Chris's subtle sarcasm here. Even though every agency has good/bad employees, I tend to believe the only reason these people were fired is that they were caught! I would also tend to believe that with Acorn as it is their charter and will undoubtedly be very closely associated with the national census next year, that this sort of thing, getting around the system, lying, producing legal voters out of thin air, et-al is the norm not the exception, and we're in for a horrible ride for determining truth with these people moving forward. It is easy enough to point the fingers at dems or reps to say one or the other got us into the mess we're in, but, I tend to believe it is all politicians, and their control is way out of hand. As well, it is our own fault for sitting on our thumbs, being complacent. Our leaders are manipulative, removing individual's freedoms... It is up to each of us whether passively or actively to get thru the muck, call BS on what's going on locally, state-wide, nationally.

Having seen some of the parental responses above where they feel the guys "scored"... well the younger students probably believe that quite a bit too. I doubt these were cases of forced rape but solicitation of a minor (or could have been the minor soliciting her as well). It is interesting in this country how laws have changed however. 100 years ago, a vast majority of this country found it was an okay thing, even necessary to engage in full-time work, and/or marriage at a very early age (12-15 years of age). It is interesting how even an 18 year old dating a 16 year old today is illegal by most standards/laws, yet, used to be considered completely acceptable. I think in this case, as in every case of age-differential-consenting-relations occurs, the conditions of what really went on need to be weighed. Punishment always seems to be a gut reaction and sometimes is unfair to the circumstances, regardless of peoples' feelings and idealistic societal desires. In the perfect society this kind of thing wouldn't ever happen, but is ours anywhere near being a perfect society?

Even with increasing capability of communication, phones, inet, media, etc. people try to find partners in methods which are readily available to them and we find ourselves as people more lonely than ever before. Yes, and it is probably true that a lot of people who become teachers are not in the job to instruct (or are not limited to instruct only in the genre they are trained in) but are there rather as they are either 1) stuck emotionally at the age they are targetting to teach 2) are into control of people more easily won-over at earlier ages 3) are afraid of rejection of people closer to their age, physical capability, emotional structure 4) are genuinely turned on by the younger persons as it makes them feel that age again... and varying other reasons.
