So there isn't the sense that it was the result of some horrible tragedy that couldn't have been avoided (as is the case with young Bruce Wayne) but that despite (or perhaps because of) his best efforts a super hero fails. Not the teen-aged Peter Parker waring a mask and trying to figure out how to use his powers, Spider Man fails.
