Very true - I am very familiar with Google and Facebook looking at entering this realm. Can't wait to see what's coming down the pike for social buying, especially EnMasse.

I wouldn't - because every restore effort will FAIL if you even have Wi-Fi Sync installed on the computer. (Even if your not using it and have your phone connected via usb.)

Same situation here - I just restored to official 4.2.1 and am waiting for new redsn0w. I didn't lose anything, since I just redsn0w'ed earlier today, trying to get ready for the new ultrasn0w. I guess the joke was on me. lol

You don't need to - simply use PT to update to a custom 4.2.1 ipsw that doesn't update the baseband (if you are on a 3G). If you are on an old bootrom 3Gs, ask MN for the bundle that will allow you use new PT to update to 4.2.1 (like he says here - http://twitter.com/MuscleNerd/status/899661517606...

Stop telling people to update to official 4.2 if they are already on an exploitable BB. They need to just use PT and iTunes to update to custom ipsw that doesn't update BB. No need to update to iPad BB if they are already using Ultrasn0w.

Once again I ask - Why do unlockers have to stay away from this update? If this update kills the unlock / patches the exploit used for 4.1, why did are we still waiting on the unlock for 4.1?

Where did you get the info that new BB doesn't patch security holes? If that's the case, why is MN and everyone else telling unlockers to stay away?

So, why all this posting about ultrasn0w unlockers stay far far away from 4.2 / 4.2.1? I realize that this release updates the baseband, but if the upcoming baseband wasn't able to be unlocked using the method for 4.1, why are we still waiting for the unlock for 4.1? The other option is that 4.2 / 4.2.1 IS unlockable using the same method as 4.1, in which case it doesn't matter if we DO update (not counting the tethered JB - which I don't have to deal with anyway, since my 3Gs BR is xx937xxxxx)

Not necessarily - how long did Apple have the 24K pwn exploit before the 3Gs was released and they still didn't fix it? I think it was somewhere around 3 months. So, IF Apple is releasing 4.2 tomorrow, I highly doubt they would or even could fix it if it was released today. BUT, the unknown still remains - what is Apple actually doing tomorrow. I guess we wait and see.

Your taking a risk there. Because Apple may find this hole by themselves, and fix it by the time the jailbreak is released, so when you buy a 3GS, your screwed and can't jailbreak it.
