Michelle Obama declared that she would voluntarily become inactive in 1993. At the time, there was an Illinois Supreme Court law, known as Rule 770, which required a court proceeeding for all Illinois attorneys wishing to return from Voluntary Inactive status, to an Active status (or even to retired status) to file for a motion from the court. Because she did not file for a motion with the court under Rule 770 since her Voluntary Inactive filing, she is listed as "court ordered inactive status". Barack is listed with a registered status of Voluntary Retired due to the fact that he registered for a motion from the Illinois Supreme Court for this status last year.

To say that she "probably quit...to keep from being disbarred", lacks any evidence, and is libel.

No it would not work. If all small businesses shut the doors, then a new class of small business owners would take their place. That is how capitalism works. Just as any employee can be replaced, so can any employer. The reason that it wouldn't work is because that people, like yourself, are so concerned about the right's of the individual, that they only think about their own individual right's rather than those of the "collective". How can you unionize a group of people that only care about themselves, on the individual level.

Also, If all small business shut their doors for a week, then everyone would just shop at Wal-Mart for that week.

Buddy, if it's a matter of your "soul", then more power to you...pack up shop and quit. Personally I think that you're being a little over dramatic, but if you feel that you have to simply stop, then that's your call.

Of course, if you want to cite quotations, how about Burke, who said, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." If you're displeased with the situation, then do something to change it. If you (or anyone else, for that matter) feel called to terminate their small business, then do so, but don't rest on your laurels after the fact. Rally others to your cause, ignite a spark, advocate for your cause.

One person giving up their livelihood because they are--for lack of a better term--fed-up, doesn't really come off to others as a stand, but more like a pouty child that didn't get their way.

I'm not trying to offend, by any means. I just personally feel that for individuals to act on principle doesn't often seem to benefit others in society.
