Rahm asks teachers to compromise. We compromised when he took teacher money out of the budget and paid police while we kept working. We compromised when the contract says 30 kids in a class and the Board puts 42 in a class. We compromised when ISBE said we had to do an additional 120 hours of professional development to recertify every five years which teachers had to pay CPS to do. Not only did we not get paid, but we had to pay CPS. That was another compromise. CPS then hired non-licensed teachers who do not even have a teaching certificate and did not have to recertify their license because they never had a license. That was another compromise by teachers. CPS then began firing teachers with Satisfactory, Excellent and Superior ratings and replacing them with new or uncertified teachers and we did not strike. That was another compromise. Then corporations came in and handed money to charter schools where they kept out special needs kids and students with behavioral disorders, leaving the public schools to deal with this population while CPS lavished additional funding on charter schools that it took from public schools. This was done to undercut public schools. Teachers compromised again. When CPS did not fund the teachers pension funds, and currently remains in arrears for hundreds of millions of dollars, the teachers kept right on teaching as CPS raided our pensions. Teachers compromised again. When Rahm got the state to pass a law that required a 75% strike vote and bragged about teachers not being able to get that number, teachers ended up getting 98% who voted to vote for a strike. We have compromised long enough.

CPS then lied about the funds swap and their lies were exposed as the result of a public records request. In every aspect of society the infliction of Draconian measures to protect "law and order" have been instituted. Yet, in the classrooms teachers are left to be victimized by the pathological behaviors of students and CPS indifference. Teachers are blamed for students poor performance. Yet, did we cut police pay because there is more violent crime in the inner city? Did we cut funds for the DEA because drug sales are at an all-time high? Did we cut soldiers' pay because they had failed to win the war in Afghanistan? Did we cut bankers' pay after they looted trillions of dollars? Did we cut the pay of politicians and regulators for having performed so miserably and having allowed bankers to steal trillions of dollars? Did we cut the pay of social workers because child abuse is becoming an epidemic? Did we cut the pay of big pharma because autism is at an all-time high? Please, let me ask all the corporate supporters of privatized for-profit ownership of schools and all their political supporters one simple question. Why is it in student testing that they do not establish a baseline that identifies a student's intelligence quotient? Does anyone think the kids of an inner-city school comprised of the poorest of the poor can, with parents who are jobless, homeless, penniless, maybe addicted to crack, alcohol, or meth-amphetamine and possibly in a gang, perform at the same level as a kid who has two parents whose I.Q.s are 130 and are both professionals who reared their child in a safe and secure up-scale neighborhood? Why is it innate intelligence is purposely ignored? If you have 130 I.Q., you will generally be able to do what a person with a 130 I.Q. can do. If you have an 85 I.Q. and live in abject poverty where social pathologies run rampant, you generally will be able to do what such a person in that condition can do. A 50-inch person will never be able to dunk a basketball and one who is blind will never hit a fastball. So, why won't the system allow accurate baseline assessment? A student who has a 90 IQ ought to be only measured against other children with a 90 IQ. Why is this not happening? One thing I do know for sure is that once corporations take over, all their failures will be swept under the table and Halliburton High School, Bechtel Elementary School and Kellog, Brown and Root College Prep will turn marvelous profits for their corporate boards as all parent rights and corporate accountability are destroyed. Then, fraud will rule the day and programs will be cut so billionaires can turn corporate profits from educational dollars. Then, social security will be next. Finally, parents will have as much luck in improving their schools as they had in stopping illegal wars, corporate theft, torture, indefinite detention, police abuse and perjury, war crimes, crimes against humanity and U.S.-assisted enforced starvation, ethnic cleansing and genocide inflicted upon Palestinians. Our schools have become little more than indoctrination centers for enforced obedience and ignorance. The curriculum hides the genocidal crimes of colonialism and imperialism. Students are falsely taught that the government follows the Constitution. Hidden from students are the crimes of the elite and the tortures and murders of the FBI. Students are indoctrinated to make sure there is no crisis in democracy. What students ought to be taught is how to wage war against a global elite that perpetrates crimes like Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. Students are fed propaganda about equality under the law while they live under a two-tiered justice system where there is liberty and justice for some. The elite can torture, murder, defraud, perjure and engage in every specie of tyranny while being held under ruin for protesting. The “crime” of protesting suddenly becomes Resisting Arrest, Battery on Law Enforcement, Disorderly Conduct and Fomenting Rebellion under a police state where liberty once flourished. The system refuses to address the crimes of Israel and the enforced starvation and ethnic cleansing supported by a media that never tells the truth. To Rahm we are all Palestinians and he is the IDF. Thank God we have Karen Lewis playing Hezbollah.
