These stories get to me more than any other theft cases you hear about. The elderly are some of the most vulnerable people in our society. I personally feel it should be written into law, that whatever sentence is handed down, the convicted should have everything of value auctioned off, and proceeds go directly to the victim.. prior to any jail time/restitution. I also wish there could be a way to label these thieves, just like sex offenders. You know this woman will serve little time, and be out there doing it to someone else in a few years. I've been skating this place for as long as I can remember, but I knew it would eventually come to an end. Indoor skateparks of this size just aren't financially feasible long term. Even smaller ones are hard to operate. Rent alone runs several thousand a month, plus building materials/payroll/power/etc.. there just aren't enough people skating it to even break even at the end of the day. I would love to see cities and counties take an active roll in opening indoor skateparks in our area, because they're almost vital with as much rain as we get. But unless our governments find a way to be sufficient and profitable, I don't see that happening. Great job SBW for keeping it open as long as it was, I hope someone will find a way to reopen it in the future!
