What happened to telling your child, "No." In my day "Who's Who Among American High School Students" was the scam. You paid an exorbitant price to get a book with your name listed in it with 10,000 other names that no one ever looked at. Use some common sense!

WOODTV.com : Tornado sirens sound just as in 1980 | WOOD TV8

Sirens are a nice thought, but we have 24 hour access to weather alerts, weather radios and new radar systems that are more accurate. I would rely on these things more than a siren. I can never hear the siren while in my house.

WOODTV.com : Federal budget deficit hits April record

If you don't look at the past, you are bound to make the same mistakes in the future. I, for one, do not look to our elected leaders to solve our problems. My parents didn't, and neither did their parents before them. Our government has always had pieces that were corrupt. Nothing has really changed since the beginning of this nation. The only thing different now is that everybody has access to technologies that allow for mass communication. As a result, we are in deadlock. Barely half the people in this nation voted for Bush and the same can be said about Obama. So if you think that everyone you want in government is going to become a reality, dream on. . . The only way to end this deadlock is to work together. I'm tired of all the rhetoric about who is right and who is wrong. The truth is always somewhere in the middle.

Who is glad they voted for Bush/Cheney? My children, and their children will appreciate what you did for them. Let's get real people - we are all collectively responsible for has happened with this nation's deficit. You can blame the Republicans for bailing out the banks and other financial institutions, or the Democrats for bailing out the people. Stupidity and greed (from every level of society) brought us to this point. My question is, "Will we have the personal character and will to fix it?" Nothing will get fixed while we play the "blame game" of denial. - sorry PaixCP, but it just isn't as simple as your post suggests.

WOODTV.com : MI Survey: What about roundabouts? | WOOD TV8

I think they are great! There is one near where I live and it keeps traffic flowing without the stopping and starting. When I lived in England for a time, I was confused at first by them ( like the metric system ), but after I got used to them, I saw the beauty of them. They help a driver save gas, breaks and time. They are also safer as there are no left turns and no one is going to "blow through" a stop sign. That's my $.02!

It's odd that both of these stories surfaced at the same time, but I am referring to this story as the earlier "blogging" suggested that the parents of these children were a victim of a child's wanderlust. However, I would apply my statement to the retention pond issue as well. First, you don't let 6 year olds wander off, period! If they are outside, they need to be in visual range at all times. Secondly, if people with young children live near retention ponds, they need to be with them while they play out of doors, and that's not negotiable. I hope this answers your question.

WOODTV.com : Pond drownings spur little action | WOOD TV8

I have read several statements that state that people can't watch their children all of the time. What a bunch of bunk. I understand that it is true for older children, but when my children were little (under age 6), we watched them like a hawk, especially if they were outside. My wife and I gave up a lot (mostly our personal freedom) to keep an eye on our boys. That meant that the house didn't get clean sometimes, or we weren't able to watch our favorite TV show, but we knew that going into parenthood. Don't blame the ponds for poor parenting. (PS, I live next to a river.)
