Growing numbers of frustrated, angry - and vocal - car drivers stuck in more/longer real-world traffic, or even the ever-increasing public perception of such, has spectacularly sabotaged this well-intentioned green project. Poor cycling community now taking some of transportation planners' heat. (:-( Perceived rabid arrogance also most unfortunate. (:-( How can the city clean up and recover from this seemingly *major* PR damage?

Now that you mention it, IMHO, the booths and beer-drinking high-density concert crowds are pretty incompatible uses. More room, e.g. in a park setting, seems more sensible. Maybe we could move the pavilion to Community Park. (;-)

Neighborhood parking concerns are very, *very* real, even with satellite parking and shuttle bus. (A handful of pedicabs, quaint and charming though they may be, were never the answer to the scale of the parking space demand.) It's clear most people want to simply park as close as they can get… in a nearby neighborhood (as I did just the other night attending a festival in another city). As I ride my bike downtown to Street Faire via Pine Street, the size of the crowd is typically reflected in how far away the bumper-to-bumper parked cars start. I think First Friday Art Walk + big name Street Faire act + exceptionally pleasant weather = worst case scenario.
