Are we for freedom and small government and following the Constitution, or are we for carrying on into an economic abyss either at lightning speed with the dems/progs or at half-speed with the country club Republicans? That's what I'm concerned about. All this schoolyard name-calling and labeling and infighting will do none of us any good when the block gets kicked out from under us.

Et tu, Big Government? Take your immature hit pieces on Ron Paul and shove it. Do you really want Obama for another four years? Do you think another RINO playing country club politics with the US is a good idea? Paul has spoken up about his stance many, many, times--he is a non-interventionist, NOT an isolationist, and he does NOT hate Jews or blacks or other races. Look at the full story and let the MSM do the "Pick a target, isolate it, personalize it, and polarize it" jobs on Ron Paul. Ron Paul is ON YOUR SIDE for crying out loud. If the friendly fire hit pieces on Ron Paul continue, you can plan on losing me as a regular reader.

By the way, you might want to let your Occupy comrades know that you are only using the word "Tranny" for conservatives, that way you don't end up getting thrown under the bus for the transgression of homophobia. Ann Coulter=Tranny is OK; Ru Paul=Tranny could be detrimental to your reputation and activism career.

Great to see mention of current power pop. One current power pop artist I would like to mention here is Andy Creighton's The World Record from Los Angeles. Here's a story on them from the LA Times' website: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2010/1... Creighton is a math teacher, and approaches songwriting like a math problem, and for that reason that songs are incredibly rich and well-arranged, but in the minimalistic way the power pop needs. If someone asked you "What is power pop?", you could give them a World Record album and tell them to give it a spin and it would answer the question very well. It's exemplary of the genre, but also exemplary of some of the best of the genre. Oh, and I've been blasting Cheap Trick's Budokan II all day today. The record industry didn't exactly do them a good turn back in the day; in my opinion they should be as big as the Stones. They WERE the second Beatles, but the industry snubbed their own messiah. I hope time will correct that error.

Oh I'm going to let some "nonsexual comments" that made some women "uncomfortable" convince me to write Cain off completely and let Romney or Perry play county club politics with the country instead--or, better yet, let Obama have another four years! Fat chance. Progressives can do these things and more all the time with no consequences, and it's OK. Their opponents say a word wrong and you hear it over and over and over ad nauseum like they're these outrageous sinners and hypocrites--as though having standards makes you a hypocrite, but having no standards gives you integrity because the bar is consistently low. The progressives are so busy using Alinsky Rule #13 over and over ("pick a target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it") that they don't realize that they are breaking Alinsky Rule #7: "A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag." And that's why these kind of tactics are working less and less.

Also, you will absolutely want to check into 1950's jazz singer Beverly Kenney. She committed suicide in 1960 at the age of 28, but is starting to experience a postmortem career revival; she opens up the This is Vintage Now compilation. Her album Beverly Kenney Sings for Playboys (1958) is one of the most powerful 1950's albums I've ever heard; I cannot get through it without crying. I'm not kidding when I say we have something for practically everyone, no matter how (understandably) jaded they may be.

You know a good place to check on metal is Scott Waters' No Life 'Til Metal site. Here's the updates page where he adds new CD's to his massive metal collection and tries to keep people up on new stuff in metal. http://www.nolifetilmetal.com/updates.htm As mentioned I produced the This is Vintage Now compilation featured here, and believe it or not I'm a really big metal fan. I run the fan site Betsyb--ch.com about the pioneering lady-fronted LA metal band B--ch. I got the ball rolling for the remastered version of Be My Slave (1983), which is coming out on Metal Blade Records this month. It's remastered by Bill Metoyer, who produced Slayer, WASP, Fates Warning, and many others. I also run a Facebook fan page for the New York-based NWOBHM/power metal band Riot--the Thundersteel lineup of Riot is back together and they just recently released a new song on a Japanese benefit compilation. They also released remasters of Thundersteel and The Privilege of Power in Japan with bonus tracks. Also there is a new Venom offshoot called Mpire of Evil that features ex-Venom members Tony "Demolition Man" Dolan, Jeff "Mantas" Dunn, and Antton Lant (younger brother of Conrad "Chronos" Lant) as its members. They are getting ready to release a couple of albums. The sci-fi themed speed metal band Agent Steel have a new track on YouTube called Tomb of Ra that is produced by Bill Metoyer and features Rick Mythiasin of Steel Prophet on vocals. Armored Saint are back together and they are playing at least one show with thrash metal mainstays Hirax. Evildead are back together too. Oh and everybody is going crazy over the Swedish Blue Oyster Cult/Mercyful Fate-influenced group Ghost. So lots of metal stuff going down these days and that's some of the stuff that's going down that I can think of off the top of my head.
