My kids have all been so healthy; I attribute that to extended nursing and no immunizations. I enjoy the time sitting with them looking down at the joy and comfort that they get while nursing. I would say that when I had my first child, breastfeeding was not really talked about (Sam and I are around the same age) or pushed. It was more like the formula was the norm...they even sent you home with bottles and formula! I tried with my first, but got no support and gave up within the first two weeks :-( I read up on the subject and got more support with my other children and don't regret extended breastfeeding.
