Guys I need your help, I by ''accident'' saw iphone update message, I accidentally NOT ignored the message and accidentally clicked update, after that I accidentally waited good 10-15 minutes while Apple accidentally downloading 250mb firmware, further more I accidentally kept waiting and seeing iPhone's screen showing the firmware getting installed, BOTTOM LINE IT'S RIDICULOUS WHEN PEOPLE SAY I ''ACCIDENTALLY'' updated the iphone, just admit a lot of LEACHERS AROUND HERE WHO just love opening threads and forums and never return the favor, nobody will help you if you lie to begin with.

Make sure you are connected to internet. Turn off/on device.Wait for few minutes and then try. Cydia's website could be down. Saurik is the guy who can help you if the problem persists. Cheers

It's hit or miss. 9 outta 10 times Cydia update will not freeze your device. Yes there is risk, but very little. I only update Cydia for something very important. It could be any reason for iPhone to freeze, on this blog, one guy's iPhone froze overnight. It's VERY rare. Don't worry guys, whatever happens, DO NOT update to 3.1, same advice goes to those who are stuck on reboot. Use a backup phone!! Wait for Saurik/Devteam

It's a hit or miss thing.Mostly when you update packages on Cydia, it does not get stuck on reboot. From what I've seen, it happens once in 100, so it's OK to update Cydia packages with very little risk. I've not updated Cydia in a while, I only play with Apps/iPod. I will update Cydia once Saurik enables hashing for 3.1 to futureproof jailbreaking of 3.1 I've seen quite a few times, even on this blog, people getting stuck after doing ''Reset All Settings'' on jailbroken 3g/3gs. Again, all this is hit or miss thing, jailbroken iPhone is never flawless, I've so many bugs after jailbreaking, like WiFi problem, Signal problem. Battery and Network icon vanishing. Its is VERY rare, but people have gotten stuck on reboot while they turned off device during syncing or while a game froze.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I really really really hope that Apple does not put this in future, forced restore to latest version to use OR sync iPhone, that would be bad!!! Sony does this and really annoys me. After reading bugs and problems in new firmwares on any device, company should not enforce update to latest version, it should be up to owners of the devices if they prefer older FW as most people get used to using it. Like Winxp, their are people who still prefer Winxp over Vista, so when they out in market to buy a new laptop, they are kinda forced to get Vista and now Windows 7 which should actually be called Vista2. I had to go through so much trouble to install xp on my vaio because it came with Vista, now I've dual operating system. I saw the keynote of Apple 9/9/09 and the way they made fun of Dell, Psp, Nintendo, Vista, Win7 was stupid, I know Apple follow them closely and I really hope they don't copy Sony security method which is ''To USE the device, you must be on Latest FW" What a pity!!

Good piece of advice to 3gS jailbroken owners: Don't reset any kind of settings, by going to settings/reset, it requires reboot and gets stuck, therefore requiring restore. In the past 6 out of 10 times when I reset settings on jailbroken 3g and 3gS, it got stuck on reboot. Also, stay away from Cydia, as packages like themes/winterboard requires reboot. Just use your 3gS and enjoy apps/songs, but stay away from any kind of activity that requires reboot, especially within Cydia. Right now you guys are feeling happy and smart that you did not update your 3gs like others who got locked out, so be smarter now by avoiding forced restore. Also, DON'T use 3rd party 5$ sync cables, it's not good for battery and syncing, anything could go wrong during sync process. To owners who are stuck on reboot, but did not update: Don't update, wait it out, use a backup phone. To owners who already updated and locked on Tmobile: Have patience, Jailbreak for 3.1 is imminent. Use a backup phone or try saurik method to downgrade if it works!

My girlfriend bought a brand new 3gs 32gb on Sep 5th and that time their was NO official FW 3.1 I jailbroke 3gS on Sep/5/2009 and I check marked ''Install Cydia'' and "Install Icy" but after running Cydia, I'm 200% sure that I never got any message like '' Make my life easier'' As of now, Cydia does not show at top that ''This 3gS has files'' so I assume the files are not stored. I've the latest Cydia version, Why my files were never stored? or may be they are stored, but as I said on top of Cydia screen, I don't see any ''This 3gS has files'' I did not miss anything and I did not do anything wrong. What could have happened? Anyone in similar situation? When I jailbroke on Sep/5/2009, I used redsn0w and the latest Cydia was automatically installed after I check marked it. My Cydia version is 1.0.3030-62. I did not miss anything, I never got ''Make my life easier'' On Sep/7/09 I jailbroke again to RE INSTALL Cydia, hoping that I will see ''Make my life easier'' but nothing. My girlfriend does not know about this, she is happily using 3.0 jailbroken/unlocked 3gs on Tmobile, but in two months I've restored her 3gs 6 times, I don't know what she does, downloads crappy apps or buggy stuff from Cydia, but another crash or reboot freeze is around the corner and then she will again happily give me her 3gs and tell me to restore as I'm her magic man, only this time I would only be able to restore to 3.1 and lose her 8 pages of apps, she will get super mad!! :( Apple is playing dirty game of SONY Ps3, on ps3, you cannot even go online or play newer games, unless you update to latest version!!

One thing is for sure, people who have 3gs jailbroken and unlocked will demand more if they sell their iPhones, but I don't see that happening online right now, prices for 3gs jailbroken are still the same, because those sellers don't know that NOW 3gs jailbroken has higher value, it's only a matter of time that old/new sellers discover this and jack up their prices, 3gs is expensive as it is.

People who claim that they ''by mistake'' ''by accident'' ''by being drunk'' updated to 3.1 IS PURE LIE. It's a long process to begin with, iTunes is slow in DOWNLOADING the fw and during that you can cancel it anytime, so accidental update is out of question. Having said all that don't be mad on people who actually updated purposely because their were a lot people who were locked out at cydia reboot and was forced to update so they can use it with their ATT sim. I've jailbroken 3gs and no way I'm touching Cydia or resetting the phone setting as more then likely that it will get stuck on reboot, resulting in a 1000$ iBrick!!! Every1 knows that Apple is money hungry company, so suck it up if you buy their product. A 1000$ iphone is ONLY for smooth screen and apps, their is nothing else in iPhone, compared to Nokia N97, HTCs, Omnias. Xperias

Yes, It's working now. wow so many posts, it's like a panic attack, guys, relax. It is JUST a phone, even without jailbreak, their are 75,000 apps, a lot of them are free. Just sell your locked 3gs 3.1 on ebay for around 740-780$ and buy jailbroken. I've 3gs and i8910 HD, mostly I use i8910HD coz battery life on 3gs sucks. Simple, it's not the end of the world. Their are other cell phones for HALF the price of 3gs and do 10 more things.
