HGTV Dream Home : HGTV Dream Home 2011 Clue Ten

I have noticed a few people mentioning that this year, the Dream Home could be International. Does that mean that they will be accepting entries from people living in other countries... or does this mean that the Dream Home could be located in another country entirely!? Ohhh My! Just imagine how many INTERNATIONAL flights take off from JFK Airport, La Guardia or Newark. Just think of how many destinations (around the World!) can be reached simply be flying out of one of these airports... Maybe the clue is about a flight going OUT of an airport in the NYC area! (??)

Cami, This blog is great - I don't blame you for wanting to protect the integrity of the the community here! No worries... I saw one of those 'nasty' posts a few days ago, and I would also have gotten defensive if someone where to attack my posts. Luckily, I think that the good folks at HGTV were able to remove them pretty quickly. I only saw one with the "f" bomb in it... I didn't see any that were personally referring to anyone in particular. But debragilmour told me that someone was making personal attacks against your posts. What knuckleheads. Hopefully, the rude poster in question will find another hobby and let all of us enjoy what is a really nice place to talk about HGTV and the Dream Home! Thanks (for the compliment about looking young). Good genetics, I can't take the credit! ;~) I'm 35 and have been in the floral biz for 15 years. I just recently started my own design company. I focus on weddings and parties - but also have some regular clients that I deliver arrangements for. I don't have a retail space where people can walk in and buy a bunch of flowers. Rather, I rent a BIG wholesale warehouse and have 2 rooms that are converted into coolers. I have a nice Big refrigerated truck and a small econo-van for my deliveries, and I'm just trying to make it! With the recent housing bubble burst down here, and the economy going down in flames... it is tough. I won't lie! However, I am really thankful that I am able to spend time with my family during the weekdays... and then do party installations on the weekends. Hard work, but worth it. Thank you for the warm welcome. I always try to get online during the week. Everyone here seems really nice and I have really enjoyed the excitement surrounding the Dream Home location! When will we find out where it is!? I hope you are right about Hawaii!! ;~) Big Pineapple here we come!

Hey Cami, Honestly, I have NO idea about why my name would show up green, or why the "reply" box is green... I am new to the IntenseDebate thing. However, it's weird, because on my computer... my name appears in blue and my reply boxes are white. So, I am just not seeing the same thing that you are. I have Windows XPS (not sure if it has anything to do with it) and when I signed up for the IntenseDebate site, I was actually posting on the Green Home Blog. Do you think that could make me show up "Green" to everyone else? I don't have my IntenseDebate linked to any other websites. I didn't even put any of my personal info in there. A few days ago, I changed the picture in there - because I used to have one with myself & my kids. After reading an article about online predators, I decided to change it to one of myself only. That's the ONLY thing I have done with the IntenseDebate site recently. I don't think that it would make me show up in green, though. The only 2 blogs that I even subscribe to are the HGTV Green Home & Dream Home. I only signed up to the IntenseDebate Website at the advice of a nice person on the Green Home blog (I think she is on here, too). I figured I'd give it a try. But I do not have a lime green headline on any other websites (or blogs, etc), I do not Blog anywhere else, I do not have any other website linked to the IntenseDebate site. And I don't even SEE anything lime green on here, OR on the Green Home blog! So it's very weird. Maybe your computer is seeing something different - because I honestly do not even know what you are talking about! I really don't think that I did anything to make it like that, either! As you mentioned... maybe a glitch? I am okay with using computers (not an EXPERT - but I can find my way around) and I promise you that I haven't done anything different than sign in to IntenseDebate and then come to this blog to read & post comments. Hopefully it gets fixed, what ever it is! I am not having any problems (or green headers, or reply boxes) on my end.

Thanks debragilmour. Yes, yesterday I saw one of those rude comments (the "F" one) and couldn't see a way to report it. I think that you were the one who explained to me about the codes - how someone managed to infiltrate the system. I have been posting on the Green Home blog, and never really saw anything like that over there! ANYWAY! No harm, no foul. I would be upset if some random person attacked my posts, too. Who ever it is, it seems like the good folks at HGTV have managed to eliminate the negativity. GOOD! I am enjoying the blog! With the New Mexico DH, I entered every day and also read the blogs. Such a witty and fun-loving group! The excitement is really infectious and I thank you for being gracious and welcoming.

C&E, I agree that talking and dreaming about these HGTV Homes is great FUN! After a super-busy month (preparing for Mother's Day)... I was SO looking forward to getting online & checking out all of the clues for this season's location. The flower biz is interesting, for sure! Luckily, my shop is only about 45 minutes away from the Miami International Airport. 90% of the flowers get shipped in from other countries. Orchards from Thailand, Roses from Ecuador & Columbia, Lilies & Hydrangea from Costa Rico, beautiful tulips from Holland. For other florists around the US, the freight costs & fuel-surcharges are sometimes MORE than the product itself! (Everything needs to be shipped in temperature controlled cargo). I am very lucky to be located here - because Miami International Airport is the first stop into the USA for a lot of flowers. They get checked in here with the US customs people and the department of agriculture. BUT, I would definitely re-consider if I were to win one of these homes! Thanks again for your posts. You make me feel better. I don't want to be "Blackballed" as that weird green girl. LoL :~)

Our Army Family, I think that you are right about this! First of all, if HGTV were to set up a Dream Home in the city, it would HAVE to be in Manhattan. After all, with "Selling New York" showing us all of these amazing properties... I think we've become spoiled! Also, based on all of the other neighborhoods of previous Dream Homes, I don't think that they would put this one in a "questionable" area (safety wise). Honestly, I can't imagine a budget BIG enough to do a reno in a GOOD area of NYC. So, unless it's upstate NY, I think Mary is just trying to keep our hearts a-flutter with the stunning picture of the city skyline. I'm sure that there is a clue in there. Hey, any ideas as to when the CLUES will be deciphered? I guess once the big news about the location is posted, we will get the clues (specifically what each clue really means) revealed, too!

"The Town of Saratoga NY lies in the foothills of the southern Adirondack Mountain region of Upstate New York. The town is comprised of many hamlets, coves, cities and villages including Schuylerville, Saratoga Lake, and Saratoga Springs. Imagine owning your own 16 acre lake surrounded by hickory woods enhanced by a classic Adirondack style residence. Privately situated on 47 acres in beautiful southern Washington County, this one of a kind property is close to Saratoga Springs" I found this on the "Saratoga.com" website. Check out this amazing lake front property. http://www.waterfrontlakehome.com Of course, the area is known for being an equestrian community. Do they have a Cartier shop in town? Hmmm, I'm trying to see if the clues all add up!

I remember as a child, we would drive to Vermont every fall. We'd always go to the same family owned apple orchard! We'd also get Gallons of fresh cider. It was like a ritual, and to this day... apples remind me of Fall and the changing seasons. Ooooo, and they had amazing maple syrup, too. And those little maple sugar flavored candies in the shape of a maple leaf! You are bringing me down memory lane Aunt B!

C&E... Well, thank you for your post. Just the fact that you are speaking up for "Cami" DOES support your statement about the people here being wonderful. I am a mother, a business owner (flower shop) an avid HGTV viewer... and simply enjoyed reading everyone's posts last season. Actually, this blog and eBay are the only 2 places where I have the User Name "designerflower" (No S at the end). I saw one of the Nasty Posts yesterday and asked why we could not put "Thumbs Down" for that person. Also, Cami had asked me "How do you get your name heading to turn green? Even the response box is green. Aren't you signed up with intense debates? " When her post showed up, it was saying that she had listed it 2 hours ago. However, I was on last night (hitting the refresh button every so often) and did not even get her response until much later! Also, none of the things were "green" on my end. My user name is (and has always been) blue, and my "response" box is white. So, I appreciate you trying to straighten it out. I was a little hurt, but I guess it's silly. Thanks again for trying to clarify.

I signed up with IntenseDebate a few weeks ago. I was on the GREEN Home blog & "AnArmyFamily" was kind enough to expain about IntenseDebate. I am a floral designer. With Mother's Day, I've been working crazy hrs & haven't had a chance to read any of the clues about the DH location. Today, I finally got online and tried to "Catch up". I live in the Miami area (I guess some of these New York City jokes can also apply to Miami - ie 3 locks on your door, etc). I love HGTV; My husband tolorates it occasionally. I figured I'd give the blog a trythis year! I only asked if you were in Hawaii because the picture next to your name shows a tropical (Hawaiian?) scene. My brother, his wife & new-born son just moved to Oahu. I'm new to both IntenseDebate & blogging on the HGTV site. If there's something that you see (that I'm doing wrong) I appreciate your input. Thanks

DBCoop, that entire area has SO much to offer! The Olympic Village at Lake Placid and Whiteface Mt. Skiing at Killington during the winter and premium golf courses during the warmer months. Not to mention hiking, boating - the list goes on and on for activities! Then you also have Saratoga during the summer months. I love, love, love the Adirondack & Green Mt. regions. And as you've mentioned... all of the Big City excitement is only a few hours drive down South via 87 - to the city. But also remember Niagra to the North! Canada! I totally agree with you that either upstate NY OR Vermont would be deserving of the honor to be selected as HGTV's next Dream Home location.

He and his wife (and newborn baby) have a small 3 bdrm townhouse (made possible by living on base) They have been asking me to go out. Just imagine... Dream Home in Hawaii. Oh my... I am getting EXCITED!! Big Pineapple... here I come!! Cami, do you live in HI? (I'm looking at your picture).
Maybe the Dream Home team all pitched in and purchased PowerBall tickets. Guess what? They WON! So now, instead of a 2 Million dollar prize... they will be handing the "Selling New York" crew a huge wad of cash for this years' Dream Home property. Hey... since we are all Dreaming... Why not? (That's about the only way it would work in Manhattan!)

Ahhh.. I love that area. Grew up there... spending summers on Lake George (not the village side - but right off of RT 9 in a little place called Glenburnie). Gotta admit... the winters are COLD! But, just imagine... summers on the lakes - and then skiing at Killington in the winters. Whatta life! Everyone keeps mentioning Hawaii.
In upstate New York, you can actually take a ferry ride that brings you directly into Vermont. Near Fort Ticonderoga. It crosses Lake Champlain - from New York into Vermont and back again (during the summer months). That area is simply beautiful... on either side of the ferry! Oh what a dream that would be, if this year's Dream Home were to be built in that area.

heatherdo... I think the flower might be a "peony". Some people once believed that "Mischievous nymphs were said to hide in the petals of the Peony ". I only think that it MIGHT be a peony because I have a large vase full of them sitting here on my desk next to my computer. The petals are the same exact color... light pink, with a few flecks of hot pink towards the tips. Ahhh, they smell so good! Only problem is... the peony is the official state flower of Indiana. BUT! They can be grown in basically ANY zone that has cold weather to give the roots a dormant period. SO.. New York does fit in that respect!

I persoanlly think that this is a peony. They are very fragrant flowers that are native to Europe, Asia and Western North America. In 1957, the Indiana General Assembly passed a law to make the peony the state flower of Indiana. Of course, since the photo is extremely close up... it really could be anything! However, "Mischievous nymphs were said to hide in the petals of the Peony"... Peonies can actually be grown in just about any zone, as long as they have a cold season.
