Sadly, it's all ashes too now. Didn't matter what time of year it was, you could always do some self-soothing at the garden centre. One local one near San Juan Capistrano had a very cool turtle pond, hundreds of turtles. Impossible to resist. Although I once upped the price of a book after some shmuck tried to whittle me down on it. Sold it awhile later for the higher price. Good. I have a glass or two of wine with Friday suppers (when we have two regular Friday guests) but that's it. I do miss it. That first lovely floaty feeling after that first vodka rocks. Sigh. While the work is being done I have half the kitchen in the dining room, which is a pain in the ass, so I'm happy it's going so quickly. It's about 5ft x 5ft which gives (ok just barely) room for a stacked washer/dryer and about 100 ft of shelving. Every year we dig them up til our backs ache and every year it makes only a tiny dent. I've lost count of how many times I've tried to teach myself to knit, and also a couple of times people have tried, but the art escapes me. But at one point in my life you could've wallpapered the house with crocheted afghans. Which reminds me, time to make up my mind about counter stools, and order them. I've got it narrowed down to about 18 (Wayfair). So pleased. Includes converting an underused mudroom into a walk-in pantry, really looking forward to that.
