I was thinking about their plans to raise the price of gas or otherwise punish energy use. I thought, I already drive a fuel efficient vehicle and so does my husband. And, I already keep my utilities as low as possible to save money. If they do this they punish people that are already scraping by doing what it is they want us to do. The poor and middle class will be hit and those who CAN afford it will most likely not cut back enough to matter.. stupid idea.

if enough people agreed, we could shut them down if we didn't pay taxes.. they couldn't put everyone in jail. they would have to beg us and play by our rules. I think Glenn already made a good point about violent uprising... not a good idea.

Did you ever read "Dominion"? There is a Christian argument for caring for animals.. not placing them above human interests but certainly we could do better. I don't want to go on and on about it, but you can care about animals and humans. I know many people that devote thier lives to animal causes that value human life and in fact these two intersect.. using animals as therapy, using animals in prison programs and showing people how animals can enrich human life and of course, teaching people to treat animals better doesn't necessarily detract from humans. I agree with you on the extremists but people often jump to that conclusion--I have been in that conversation at least a dozen times.

I am agnostic and was raised athiest.. the latter I can't help. You can be agnostic or an athiest and believe in the other 8 principles.. I believe religioius faith has a huge role in why we are a free country and I am comfortable with believers as long as they respect my agnosticism.
