What do Malaysians do with the real nuclear waste from its real nuclear research reactor?

Reactor Triga Puspati(RTP)

Our don't you know about this?

A leading Malaysian professor of nuclear science computers lynas waste insignificant and a non issue, see Al jazeera, The Stream

Hello, no I don't represent Lynas, but am professional engineer.

I can understand anyone's concern about a factory, but ask yourself what is your concern from the refinery nearby? Coal fired power plants emit more radioactive particles into the atmosphere. Do you have concern about this?

Mr Wong Tack and MR Tan Bun Teat have misled the Rakyat. They have not been able to produce ANY evidence in court that the plant is unsafe. Why do you think this?

They have scared the community because nobody knew what rare earth was and rumours spread about rare earth, instead of facts and science. Then it became a political issue and Lynas has been unfairly treated by being dragged into Malaysian internal politics. Many suspect the funding for SMSL is from Chinese competitors of Lynas, Baotou Steel.

As a resident you should question both sides. Don't listen to one or the other. Base your decision in REAL facts, not opinions and rhetoric.

Despite the LIES from TechDouble, lies like..."no small amount of radiation is deemed safe" - complete ignorance of science. We are surrounded by radiation everyday, we eat it, breathe it and drink it everyday. So don't SCARE PEOPLE TECHDOUBLE WITH YOUR LIES!

Note that NO GOVERNMENT IS SANE AND CARING.. Please tell me one? Its all an illusion, no matter who is in power. Government is self serving first and people second. They only make promises when not in power, and break them when in power. Don't be a false prophet to the Rakyat.

Read the IAEA report, they did not strongly criticise. In fact nowhere in the IAEA report do the words "strongly criticised" exist. Please show me, or are you anti-Lynas trying to scare the people again? The words "Strongly Criticised" are your words that you made up to slant bias in the issue. Clear example!.

The IAEA found that as said the plant shows NO DISCERNIBLE RISK to the public. and there is NO -NON-COMPLIANCE. Don't mislead the readers. Just because most of anti-Lynas common folk are malas membaca means they will read your simpleton incorrect and bias excerpts without being balanced to the positives, yes only negative from these ignorant people. Ignorance means that despite the facts you ignore them, SMSL seem to ignore the benefits and all the positive, select a few manageable negatives and stretch the truth and omit key facts to scare the rakyat. Very bias. The SMSL anti-Lynas would make you think the IAEA report is negative but have you read it? It is extremely positive towards Lynas. Read it. Look at page 19. Also look at the main findings, Good Practice, point (B).

'The waste management plans in this licensing phase is compliant and adequate. '

There is a recommendation that a long -term waste management plan be implemented. But the licence condition for the TOL state that a long term management plan is not required until 10 months after receiving. In addition, the fact that commercial application and markets are already identified for the waste material indicates a long term storage. Read the IAEA report where it finds this as good practice.

No non-compliance with safety. IAEA report!

BTW, recommendations are things that are recommended, but not a definite requirement. The safety is a MUST, Lynas passes as IAEA has reported.

If in 10 months they haven't got a long term management plan, then start crying a river. Until then, park your comments, they are misleading and wrong.

Police colluding with Lynas, are you serious? The leaders (Wong Tack/ Tan Butt Teet) of SMSL have said they will even do illegal things to stop the transportation of the material, the police are there to uphold the law after a law abiding company has been threatened with industrial sabotage. FACT!

The above article is what is termed sensationalism and esclation of a non-issue through comparison to incidents that are catastrophes.

IAEA says plant poses little risk to the public. Even in the event of a significant failure there would be little risk.

I look forward to ending this nonsense by the ignorant activists who are politically motivated. If they hadn't promoted this Lynas plant at the start as a nuclear facility things would be different. February 5 can't come fast enough. When they lose, another appeal? I can see Wong Tack/Tan Butt Teet in 30 years time still beating their chest saying, believe me, we will stop Lynas.

I wonder if they will have to pay back their Chinese masters when their bid fails.

It is surprising that SMSL said they would never let one bit of rare earth land in Kuantan. It did.

They said they would not let Lynas get the TOL, they failed again. Seems to be a trend, hopefully it will continue.

Go Lynas for a greener future for the benefit of Malaysians and other people around the world.

A very biased article. Tried for balance and fell way short. Time will tell when teh uneducated Malaysian Activists who hate their Government Masters realise that Lynas was a non issue.

Why don't these anti-Lynas fools go and protest something that's real like the cyanide poisoning in Bukit Koman. Instead they all have imaginary visions of disaster in their feeble minds.

Relating Bukit Merah tragedy. Not the same, government regulators the same, but 30 years ago do you think things have improved? Technological understanding? What about the IAEA report? Said Lynas was low risk. Was there even an IAEA report for Bukit Merah?

Go back to Journalism school Mr Loong, you need the experience. Maybe ask your Chinese Masters to support your tuition.

obviously we are bad at educating. despite over whelming evidence, you don't understand. overwhelmingly the anti lynas people are poorly educated.

The uneducated fall into the category...... People are afraid of the unknown and that which they do not understand

Limasen. Tin mining in Malaysia is 40-100 times more radiative than lynas.

The anti lynas misfits say that lynas waste is 6 times that allowed. So do you think it makes sense that if lynas mixed its waste with normal soil, (as you know all soil is radioactive), then if its mixed, there is no problem.

Simple mathematics.

So if any waste is leached, 5, 10 or 100 years, then the dilution processes will make any waste undetectable. Correct?

im no fool, but I may be replying to one.

The best evidence describing the ignorance and lack of intelligence of anti lynas people, is that unomalaysian above doesn't even know that tin mining is radioactive, yet this person receives more than 160 positive votes?

this is proof.

Completely agree current government is corrupt, hopefully they well be beaten in the next election. Thankfully they won't be able to stop lynas because they already have approval and there won't be any reason to stop lynas. Lynas is not a dangerous plant like some people claim.

GO PKR, GO LYNAS
