@Jason- I with you on the "Ooooo-SNAP!" thing. I had to Google "cracking" to see if the term was still current. What I really like about "cracking on someone" or "playong the dozen" is that is was a way for guys to "battle" in a fun, humorous way that did not involve guns and drive-bys. I miss those days.

Thank you, Lynn. I used to tell my kids that they are my favorite son or daughter (I only have one girl and one boy). As they grew older, they tell me that they are my only son and daughter. Even though they have grown wiser, I still tell them this because the sentiment remains. They are my favorite little people on the planet.

Jason. You've gotta give it a try. Your gameplan (hunting progression) is very similar to mine. I don't plan to hunt deer until next fall, but I am planning to hunt wild hogs in the spring.

It is the war and glorious battle part that I was disappointed in. Certainly not the kids. The purpose of the league was to introduce kids (and parents) to Christ who may otherwise not know him. To that end, we were successful.

@WeaselMomma. It is bewildering, isn't it? Nothing could keep me from kissing my sleeping babies or having them attack me upon my return home. It's hard for me to imagine life before them.

@NYCityMama. Maybe that's because we try to overcompensate for what we lost. Maybe. I know that I fully give my father credit for my becoming the man I am today. Meaning, I work to do the opposite of his example.

@Daddy Files. I absolutely agree that the abscence of a father does not mean that a child can't thrive. Although I missed my father, I had a basically happy childhood. Do I think I would have been happier with both parents? Yes. For those who abandon their children, yes. I believe that's an utter failure of manhood. Thank goodness that does not represent manhood as a whole.

@Melisa. I, too, wondered if I was being fed a line of good ol' Texas cow puckey. My gut told me that the bull was left on the ranch somewhere. If I'm wrong, then that is between him and his God.

@Lynn. Great point about not being able to sheild our kids from everything negative. However, we can teach them what is acceptable behaior and what is not (as you are doing in your home).

@coolnanny. I was embarrassed by the whole thing. I don't agree with the president on most issues, but he was right on. Some kids will listen to him before they listen to the adults in their lives. Thanks for the solid input.

@ Melzie-Thank you. That's why I wanted everyone to think outside the box in order to think twice.. Accept the word (which, as older generations pass on, will probably happen) or abolish the word. If the word "bitch" has become common in our lexicon, so will "nigger" at some point. I felt like it was a sad day when I realized that "bitch" became acceptable.IThe N-word is nothing but a devisive instrument.
