Jewish Daily Forward : Shame on Hillel for Shunning Civil Rights Veterans – Forward Thinking – Forward.com

Seller, Grupper, et al. are mendacious to the core. First, they would drape themselves in the mantle of the '60's American Civil Rights movement, which is so inapposite to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict of today. They try in order to appropriate the moral authority of that righteous movement and use it for their anti-Israel purposes. Then, they do not say that they are advocates of economic warfare against the Jewish state, that is Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions of the sort that were used against apartheid South Africa, to whom they maliciously liken Israel. And that is the plain and simple of why Hillel, quite correctly, will not allow any of it's chapters to host them or others of their like.

How come an administrator removes the occasional offensive post, but innumerable "replies" by Crabtree Nick remain up? Neither Mr. Michaelson, nor the Forward's editors are going to apologize for publishing such arrant crap? They're going to stand by this?

Jewish Daily Forward : Max Blumenthal\'s \'Goliath\' Is Anti-Israel Book That Makes Even Anti-Zionists Blush – Forwar

Your wrong with some of those pedigrees. For example, the execrable Amy Goodman's father is a physician, not a rabbi; the rabbi was her maternal grandfather. And Chomsky was not a "red diaper baby," but the son of a respected Zionist and noted Hebrew scholar at Graz College in Philadelphia. Loathsome they all are, however.

Commentary Magazine : The Bizarro Doctrine

"To be sure, Egypt has brought many of its problems upon itself. The military’s toppling of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsi was not its finest moment." What in your opinion was the Egyptian military's finest moment? I don't know, but I know that toppling of the Muslim Brotherhood regime of Morsi was not all that bad a one. Or did you think that substantial good was to be expected from that virulently antisemitic and anti-American Islamist?

What sort of "extremism in the support of liberty," if any, do you think Goldwater might have thought too much or a "vice"? Causing the US to default on its debt? And if you think Cruz, whose name you bring up, isn't "remotely extreme" or "even close" to "extreme," then why do you count him "foolish"?

I can't hear the word "diversity" in the employment context without think of General Casey's response to the massacre at Ft. Hood perpetrated by Nidal Hasan: "As great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well,"[7] Several months later, in a February 2010 interview, Casey said, "Our diversity not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that's worse."

Commentary Magazine : Oh To Be Young and Socialist Again

You wrote, "The word 'progressive' is bandied about as if it has had a stable meaning." I asked what meaning you thought the term had today, that is in 2013, and added that it should be a non-tendentious definition, one that tells us "what those who see themselves as 'progressives' in the 21st century profess to believe and champion." Anything improper or not straightforward in that attempt to define "progressive" for purposes of discussion here? If one of your blog posts gives a clear definition of what you think is the general understanding of "progressive" as a political label today, please point me to it. I am not after any greater elaboration of your thinking, only what you mean by "progressive" when you use it in the course of this comment thread. ("Thanks. The word "progressive" is bandied about as if it has had a stable meaning.") [I supposed you were responding to adboughton and/or JeffPerren with the Jonah Goldberg business. I have been confused by the order in which comments post here, it not always clear who is responding to what. And I couldn't see one of my own comments before just now.]

That is meant to be a "non-tendentious definition of 'progressive' as that label is used today"?! It is nothing like a definition, certainly not something that tells us anything about what those who see themselves as "progressives" in the 21st century profess to believe. and champion.

What non-tendentious definition of "progressive" as that label is used today would you propose? Clearly, the word does not connote what it did pre-WWII, when it had a good deal of currency. And in recent years "progressive" has come to subsume "liberal" and more, that more being what is much farther to the left than what "liberal" has generally been understood to mean.

It looks like this commentary thread has been "moderated," but without any notice by Commentary to its readers. Perfectly reasonable comments have been submitted and not gone up, or gone up and then disappeared. If that's what is going on, and it looks like it is, then very ill-advised. And it shows the "immaturity" of many here that HillelA draws so many "down votes" for saying no more than that it appears that comments are being purged without notice or explanation.

Not or the sake of "party unity," for the sake of taking back the Senate and having a shot at the WH again in our lifetimes. But you like the Sharron Angles, who you believe would have won but for those nefarious RINOs. And the Mourdocks, who was "ambushed by a cheap 'gotcha' question from a liberal journalist dragging in an issue that had no business entering the equation since it was based on a phony premise." And the Troy Atkinses, for whom both you and Claire McCaskill were so enthusiastic, albeit for different reasons. And the unforgettable Christine O'Donnell. Good that Olympia Snowe, moderate (RINO) that she was, is gone and Angus King is in her place, right? And let's not have any non-Tea Partyers running for the Senate, though sane GOP candidates might make it possible for the Rs to regain the majority there and repeal the ACA, as Wehner reasons. OK, enough time wasted with you and your lunacy.

Did you read/hear Wehner say anything in support of the ACA? I'm sure I didn't/haven't. As for those 'principled" politicians you allude to, are you confident that what you imagine to be noble, "brave," "reputation on the line" principles are about other than self-protection against denunciation by rabid Tea Party types and primary challenges next year?
