NOM will likely get awarded their legal expenses because the IRS DID make an error and they acknowledged they made an error. NOM then had to investigate and do whatever they needed to do to fix the problem. Regardless of my personal opinion of NOM, it's only fair that they not have to pay for someone else's mistake.

Actually, and respectfully, I have to disagree. And that's part of the problem. The Catholic Church has never actually stated why he was excommunicated, which is ridiculous. But Father Reynolds himself says: "'I've come to this position because I've followed my conscience on women's ordination and gay marriage.'' According to The Age, one Archbishop, who has no more knowledge than the letter sent to Reynolds: "Archbishop Hart said Father Reynolds was excommunicated because after his priestly faculties were withdrawn he continued to celebrate the Eucharist publicly and preach contrary to the teachings of the church." So, sorry, but I cannot agree with your comment.

Three days after Sandy Hook, we reported on a 3-year old who, as we wrote, "died after accidentally shooting himself in the head while playing with his uncle’s gun in a bedroom of his uncle’s home." His "uncle is an Oklahoma state trooper, and the gun was a personal weapon, not state-issued..." Pretty sure this is one of the 30,000 gun deaths and that if there were less guns this might not have happened. What's "dishonest and manipulative" is refusing to accept the fact that guns kill, and less guns mean less gun deaths.

I have no strong opinion on Hagel, because, to your point in the Atlantic piece, what LGBT group has sat down with him? Frankly, in 1998, what GOP elected official would have been supportive of LGBT people. I think we have to allow for "evolution." And frankly, as I and as Aravosis suggested, the factions behind the anti-Hagel attacks make me think perhaps he's a good choice. The swiftboating of Hagel is not surprising, but its lack of sophistication is.
