KCRG : President of Vinton-Shellsburg School Board Arrested | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, a

If felons want to vote, just move out of Iowa and to a state that doesn't impose that restriction. Since his previous conviction was for theft from his employer, it's interesting that the VS school district put him in the top spot. I don't think a felony should keep you from getting a job, but certainly prevent you from being in a position to repeat your previous offense.

KCRG : Security Added to Hy-Vee Leads to Several Shoplifting Citations | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News

Now that the word is out IN BOLD TYPE that Hy-Vee is cracking down, the shoplifters will just move to other stores. The profit margin at grocery stores is very small. If someone shoplifted $10.00 worth of merchandise, the store has to sell at least $125.00 to make up for the loss and break even. The only way grocery stores make money is through volume sales, and it doesn't take much in the way of theft to hurt the store's bottom line.

It seems our meat/poultry industry thrives on this sort of behavior. It's amazing - recently there was a bust of illegals - 13 were arrested at their homes, while hundreds were at work in the plants. All the plants ought to be raided. Of course we'd be without meat for a while, since most plants would probably be shut down, but it's a small price to pay for cleaning up the industry.

The story makes no sense. KCRG is putting more stories online that have a middle, but no real beginning or ending. I'm not making a statement for or against gay behavior, but I don't understand what's illegal this time around either. A huge gap in the story.

What these activists seem to forget is that they are entering private property and invading someone's privacy. They don't help their cause when it's discovered that their editing and staged situations are meant to incite contempt when perhaps it's not justified. Anybody who disagrees with this legislation on freedom of speech grounds needs to understand that farms are not public places. It is just as invasive as if they came to your home with a hidden camera, edited it to fit their purpose, then aired it.

The story leaves us hanging, since it didn't give any details of what happened in court. As for the trick this couple pulled, it stinks. So far as I'm concerned, they committed theft on the grandest scale. Some folks may ask this couple how they can live with themselves. I'll answer that - they have no conscience whatsoever.

Unfortunately it isn't just in Iowa that this kind of sick garbage happens; it's everywhere. Rather than spending the money to prosecute and jail this creep, send him to the front line in the mid-east. If he becomes a casualty, hopefully it would save an innocent soldier from being that casualty. I'm not in favor of the death penalty because of all the mistakes that have been made, but I'm very much in favor of life in prison with no parole, and keeping these types in general population. It's cheaper, and sometimes, as with Jeffrey Dahmer, situations resolve themselves. By the way - did Dahmer's killer ever get charged for that? I never heard anything about it afterward.

Not true jjestsaid - many people are backed so far in to a corner that they have to choose the lesser of two evils. And the way prosecutors distort supposed facts, betting on a jury isn't always the smart way to go either. Read "Guilty - The Collapse Of Criminal Justice." The author, a NY judge, says even if you're innocent and you're offered a choice between a plea bargain for a little time, and a jury trial for more time, what's wrong with having to make that decision?" That, to me, says it all. When a judge acknowledges innocent people can be railroaded, and oh well, what's wrong with that - it shows how crooked the justice system really can be.

And of course the cost of those changes, however innocuous they may be, will be included in their products. That means price increases for signs that really aren't necessary. And as bigmikecri said, in a few years, they'll tear all the signs down because the facility will be moved across the border. Who really cares that Pepsico makes their ownership of Quaker more prominent? It means nothing to the consumer, except higher prices.

I agree with lookinthemirror. If she in fact gave a different age, she knew she was setting someone up for legal trouble. Of course, it would be easy to get a transcript of the conversations, since they're likely to be stored on FaceBook's servers. That aside, there are plenty of teens out there who pull the same stunt, then go on to play victim when the whole thing comes to light. In a case like this, she ought to be suffering some consequences. As far as parents monitoring, you can monitor all you wish, but the kids will find a way around that. They're not stupid.

The scary part is that a kid could easily make up an accusation and the man would be toast immediately. Gone are the days that people can do things out of goodwill, lest you end up entangled in a nasty legal situation. Certainly kids shouldn't go up to strangers and in this day and age, someone handing out candy could be up to no good. But it says so much about how our society has changed, and not necessarily for the better.

As I see it, anybody who violates an OFP needs a very stiff prison sentence. Not probation, not a couple of years, but a long time. When it gets to the point that a court has to issue an order, and the defendant ignores that order, it says he/she will not change his/her ways. Some people will not change their violent ways, and need to be put away. If you do that, now you have the best OFP possible.

Life without parole, because this should be treated as 1st degree murder. Murder 1 required premeditation, and in my opinion, this was premeditated. Deliberately driving - while in treatment - w/o a license, the driving history - it points to only one conclusion: he didn't care a bit about huring others, and when he planned on driving, he decided right there that he could easily kill someone. For those who want everyone to "look in to his eyes" sorry, but he made a conscious decision and someone is dead. Pretty simple.
