Dont need a permit to purchase a shot gun or rifle. A 12 gauge pump shot gun with a shorter barrel is excellent for home defense. Now if you want to get your CCP, then ofcourse a more compact hand gun will fit the bill. And for that you'll need two permits. One to purchase and then the CCP if you choose to actually carry.
